Troubleshooting

Instructional steps to follow
  1. Verify that the Logitech webcam is connected to your computer if your computer doesn't register its existence, if the webcam's power light isn't glowing or if no image shows on your webcam software. The webcam's USB cord should be firmly inserted into an open USB slot. For the best results, use a USB port on your computer instead of a port on a peripheral device like a USB hub or a keyboard.
  2. Adjust your room's lighting if the Logitech webcam image is excessively dark. Logitech's cameras have no built-in light. For the best viewing image, your light source should come from behind the Logitech webcam instead of shining into the webcam's lens.

  3. Quit any open programs other than the software that's using the Logitech webcam if you get errors regarding more than one program trying to use the camera (e.g., a chat software and a voice-over-IP program both trying to use it at once). This can create data problems and software conflicts.
  4. Check for updates to your Logitech drivers from Logitech's support site. The company regularly releases software updates and patches that resolve commonly encountered glitches and problems. Download the patch and double-click it to initiate an automated installation process. Your computer typically needs to be restarted before you can resume use of the Logitech device.
  5. Contact Logitech's webcam support line at 646-454-3209 if you still cannot get your webcam to work correctly. Support technicians are available weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. PST and on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST. Have your model and 10-digit part number ready. Such numbers are usually located on the bottom of the webcam or on its packaging.

Webcam is not showing any video at all!

Connect your webcam
Launch the logitech webcam toolbar from your desktop or if you chose not to install the shortcut - launch it from "All programs" or from your C drive - Programs and files.

Open the Quick Capture menu (2 film frames pic)
Check your image here
If it shows white - you have a logitech/computer software problem
If its OK you have failed to configure it correctly to whatever program you are using it in.

Did you install the support software required to run Logitech cameras - Directx 10 ?

Logitech QuickCam Communicate MP - black screen

  1. Either one of these image sizes:
    • Small image size: 160 x 120
    • Large image size: 320 x 240
  2. RGB, I420, or IYUV formats. (Each is fine; we recommend RGB 24.)
  3. Microsoft DirectX version 9.0
To get this information, click here to download a Microsoft application that checks to see if your webcam device meets these requirements.
To make it easy, when you’re asked where to Save the program, just save it on your Desktop.
Once it’s downloaded, here’s what to do:
  1. Double-click the amcap.exe file on your desktop.
    • If you have more than one webcam installed, click the Devices menu and select the one you want to use.
  2. Click the Options menu, then click “Video capture Pin.”
  3. Under “Color Space/Compression:”, choose one of the following formats:
    • RGB 24 (our recommendation)
    • I420
    • IYUV
Note: If one of the options above isn’t in the list, then your webcam is not compatible with Yahoo!7 Messenger.
  4. Under “Output Size”, choose one of the following:
    • 160 x 120
    • 320 x 240
Note: If one of the options above isn’t in the list, then your webcam is not compatible with Yahoo!7 Messenger.
  5. Click OK
  6. Close the ampcap application.
  7. From your desktop, click ‘Start’ and select ‘Run’.
  8. In the run box, type: dxdiag
  9. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
  10. On the System Tab under ‘System Information’, look for DirectXversion. Verify that your version is DirectX 9.0. If it is, just click Exit. If your version is older than 9.0 (any lower number), click here to download the latest version of DirectX.
  11. Start the webcam from Messenger by clicking My Webcam in the Messenger menu.
Attention Logitech webcam users:
Some Logitech webcam drivers may cause one of the following problems:
  • Windows freezes when accessing the webcam
  • A black screen appears when using the webcam in Messenger
  • A ‘Webcam not found’ error message appears.
  • After 3 seconds, the sound drops out of calls made via Messenger
If you already verified that your device is compatible through the above steps and you’re a Logitech webcam user, please click here to update your Logitech webcam driver.

Can't see me during night time even there's is light

Several factors determine onscreen size of a video image produced by a Webcam. The actual Webcam hardware may be limited to a maximum resolution. The percentage of your screen filled by a Webcam image will be a factor based on your desktop resolution and the maximum resolution of the Webcam image. A third factor impacting image size is available bandwidth Webcam software may also play a role in determining image size, but in most cases the software is only limited by the Webcam output. There are several ways to optimize your results to make sure you send a Webcam image viewable at the highest resolution acceptable to relatives on the other end, while also optimizing your system to maximize available screen real estate with inbound images from relatives.
Webcam hardware is often a big limiting factor in determining maximum image size. Most Webcams on the market today output a maximum 640x480 image, which easily fills a television screen. Any of the Webcams currently available from Logitech, Creative, Apple, D-Link or the numerous niche companies marketing Webcams will support 640x480, although some produce better results than others. If you have a Digital Video camera capable of doubling as a Webcam, you may get a 720x480 maximum image size. Apple's iSight camera and some of the higher end Logitech cameras using CCD instead of CMOS image sensors produce excellent images at 640x480 in well-lit rooms.
Knowing 640x480 is the maximum image size, don't expect incoming video to fill your screen if you have your resolution at 1024x768. The graphic below is shows the relative portion of a 1024x768 screen filled by a 640x480 image at 50% of actual size. If you want the incoming video to fill your screen, reset the resolution of your monitor to 640x480 to properly accommodate the incoming video feed. This assumes your relatives are capable of sending 640x480 video from their end. If their sending limitation is 320x240, the best you can hope for is a video filling 50% of your 640x480 screen.
