An operating system "OS" or "DOS"

Operating Systems Means, Tips & Tools.Microsoft Windows Server 2008 is the company's latest server operating system. Officially launched in February 2008, Windows Server 2008 is the successor to Microsoft's previous server OS, Windows Server 2003.
"The other is Disk Operating System, in a general sense, DOS refers to just about any operating system. More commonly, it describes the operating system Microsoft developed in 1981 for IBM's line of personal computers. Though syntactically distinct, DOS shares similarities with a Unix shell. It has a command-line interface and analogs to many common Unix commands. However, DOS is a 16-bit, single-user operating system that does not support multi-tasking. It is far easier to administer than Unix, but less powerful. Compared to graphical interfaces such as Windows and Mac OS X, it's also not particularly user-friendly."
An operating system sometimes abbreviated as "OS".Operating System is the program that being initially loaded into the computer by a boot program or manages all the other programs in a computer. The other programs are called applications or application programs. The application programs make use of the operating system by making requests for services through a defined application program interface (API). In addition, users can interact directly with the operating system through a user interface such as a command language or a graphical user interface (GUI).
An operating system performs these services for applications:
  1. In a multitasking operating system where multiple programs can be running at the same time, the operating system determines which applications should run in what order and how much time should be allowed for each application before giving another application a turn.
  2. It manages the sharing of internal memory among multiple applications.
  3. It handles input and output to and from attached hardware devices, such as hard disks, printers, and dial-up ports.
  4. It sends messages to each application or interactive user (or to a system operator) about the status of operation and any errors that may have occurred.
  5. It can offload the management of what are called batch jobs (for example, printing) so that the initiating application is freed from this work.
  6. On computers that can provide parallel processing, an operating system can manage how to divide the program so that it runs on more than one processor at a time.
All major computer platforms (hardware and software) require and sometimes include an operating system. Linux, Windows 2000, VMS, OS/400, AIX, and z/OS are all examples of operating systems.

64-bit central processing unit is one that can support a higher amount of system resources than a 32-bit counterpart.
It has the ability to both recognize and use more amounts of available system memory to go along with its faster processing speeds.
If you want to install a 32-bit operating system on a computer with a 64-bit processor, you can--but you won't be taking full advantage of what your system has to offer you.

Place the installation disc for your 32-bit operating system in your computer's disc drive.
This can be one that you've purchased, as in the case of Microsoft's Windows operating system, or one that you've downloaded from the Internet, in the case of the Linux operating system.
Shut down your computer. Once completely off, turn it back on again.

Click "Next" to continue through your 32-bit operating system's setup program.
You will be asked to read the "TOS," or terms of service.
This is important legal information that you should read in detail, as it informs you of exactly what you're agreeing to by installing this operating system.

Specify any settings changes you want to make to the way your operating system is installed.
From these screens you can also input personal information into your operating system, such as your name or business information, which will save you the trouble of having to do it later when you install utilities.
Click "Install." The 32-bit operating system's setup program will format your hard drive, erasing all data on it.
It will then place the necessary operating system files on your computer.
This can take an hour or more depending on the operating system being used.
Once this process is finished, allow your computer to automatically restart.

Invalid partition table

This means that the operating system has crashed.. You can try to insert the operating system's disk and you can repair the operating system.

This happens when some file are missing which are essential for the system start up.

Could you please inform me about the operating system that you previously had? It would be easier for me to help you.

Thanks

To run both operating system on the same computer

Hi,

Install both operating systems on seperate partitions. You will then be able to boot either one of the Operating systems at a time.

If you want to run both the operating systems at the same time, use some virtualisatoin softwares like Microsoft Virtual PC or VMware workstation.

I need to know the disadvantages of an operating system

Hi,

That would depend on what type of operating system you mean.

Windows: Not many disadvantages at all except that over time the operating system can degrade if not looked after properly. For example bad drivers, corrupt boot files etc.
There are tools like defragmenter and other registry tools that can keep the operating system in good working order.

Linux: This can be a very difficult operating system to work with as unlike Windows you have to know "Source Code" this is the input languge that is used with OS's like Linux, Unix etc.

Mac OSX/leopard: Very similar to Linux but the difference is that Mac is mainly just a tool. Used mainly for people on the go and who have no time to work properly with the operating system. Mac has specialized applications which are used all around the world. Many government institutions like the Police use Macs. Mac's are also the most expensive of all the operating systems and computers.

Original computer operating system not working

You need to give more specifics please. If your original operating system is not working, then it can either be repaired with a operating system disk by inserting the disk and rebooting it and following the repair console instructions or just by reinstalling the OS from the disk for a new operating system.

Trying to install a new hard drive in a cf51 laptop and I'm getting "no operating system found"

A new hard drive will not contain an operating system. It will have to be formatted and then an operating system installed. Follow the instructions that came with it or try booting with the operating system CD.

If this information was helpful please vote.

Thank You
