Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

Hi, I had Norton Anti Virus on my PC at my previous job which I left in April 2008. I paid for it yearly thru my AMEX credit card. I never cancelled it, mainly because I forgot, and now I have received the new statement and it reflects the new years charges. How to I cancel? I really don't care about the PC @ previous job as I believe it is no longer operable. I believe if I call AMEX they will suggest I contact you. What info do you need from me other than the following number which appears on the statement?: VAB18296170 95014 Please reply ASAP as I do not want to deal with possible late charges on m AMEX account. Thank you, Dianne Terrano current personal e-mail go4thegold@msn.com. e-mail from previous job which no longer exists but you may have on file from order: dianne@timbisha.org

Please reread my original message . . . I paid for Norton and was reimbursed by prev employer. I no longer work there and forgot about it. I received AMEX statement with new renewal charge and it is not my charge. I need it cancelled right away I cannot find anywhere on your sites to do that. I see this turning into a fiasco, so maybe you can help. Plus I have ZERO info re that program except this number which appears on my AMEX statement:

    VAB18296170 95014

There is no way for me to access any info from that system. This is not a computer I have seen since April 2008.

    Please advise

No disrespect BUT, I need to cancel Symantec on a computer I not longer have access to (prev job). My cc has been charged for the new year. How about this, please provide me a phone number so I can speak to some in person because I refuse to go thru extensive e-mails and have communication problems.

    Thank you,

I called Symantec after much frustration in locating a viable phone number. Was on hold for 45 minutes, yep 45! Got a very nice lady who asked all the right ?'s and will have my AMEX acct credited in 3 working days. And, for being so patient on the phone she extended my Norton/Symantec security protection on my own personal home system for an extra 30 days. So it all worked out. Sorry if I was a little remiss in your responses, but Fixya is not Symantec and I have never done this b4. But now I know about it.

Thanks and have a nice holiday,

    Dianne

I still don't quite understand, maybe 'cause I didn't get enough sleep the other night. LOL

Are you trying to get your money back from Symantec AMEX, or your place of employment? If its your place of employment or AMEX, there's nothing I can help you with.

As I said before, with Symantec, you are going to need to contact them to make sure you don't get charged again in the future and also to dispute the previous charge. You may be able to tell them you no longer use it and was unaware it was going to renew automatically, I'm sure they can help you out with that.

    Best of luck.

Is this a message you sent to Symantec (makes of Norton Antivirus) or are you talking to us, the forum users?

You should be able to email Symantec, you'll be able to cancel your subscription. Use the Symantec website for more information.

My norton demand key before subcribtion

Use "Add/Remove Programs" to uninstall it, and then get FREE anti-virus software:
http://www.Microsoft.com/security_essentials
to replace the $$$$ that you are annually paying for your Norton subscription.

Remember to "cancel" your Norton subscription, so that they don't automatically charge your credit-card upon your renewal date.

Different types of Anti-virus software

<p>There are many different types companies, who create different anti-virus software. One of the most popular companies is Symantec Corporation. Symantec has its own products like Symantec Anti-virus, Symantec internet security, Symantec also have another anti-virus products called Norton. Symantec launched various versions of its products and till now, the latest version of Symantec Corporation is Norton Internet Security 2011. It's about 25 years before Norton antivirus came on the market. The name of the first Norton anti-virus was Norton Commander, released in the year 1986, served as a standard interface for DOS. This version of Norton was invented to protect DOS from malicious programs. Norton anti-virus can be listed as an oldest anti-virus program. The initial version of Norton commander was called vdos with a slandered interface for dos, for initial virus protection.<br /> <p> <br> <p>Compared to other anti-virus software, Norton provides in-built firewall software, e-mail scanner, anti-rootkit, and anti-spyware, anti-virus. Some newer options released like Sonar protection, file insight, threat insight, insight network etc. It is fast and compatible with vista like operating systems.<br> <p> <br> <p>Other popular companies are McAfee, which provides anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall software like features and PC utilities, like QuickClean tool, defragmenter and file shredder, which lets you permanently delete sensitive files in a manner that they can't be recovered. Protection software is Kaspersky; it also provides anti-spyware, anti-virus and firewall software. One very unique feature of Kaspersky is the virtual keyboard; this small application lets you input sensitive information like credit card number, password in online without worrying about keyloggers or hackers.<br> <p> <br> <p>Many other anti-virus software have been uses, like ESENT Webrot, NOD32, QuickHeal, AVG, AVAST anti-virus etc. you can also download free versions of anti-virus from online. Whichever anti-virus you're using make sure one thing that you have to update it regularly to protect your computer.

Top 5 Paid Anti-Virus Software

With the brand-new Windows 7 operating system released late last year, many computer users opt to install some sort of anti-virus. There are free versions available, but are not routinely kept up-to-date as a paid version. Plus paid versions offer a better support and look nicer to the eye. Here are my best anti-virus programs for 2010.

1. GData Anti-Virus 2010
www.gdata-software.com $25 (one year, single PC license)
Based off of two free anti-viruses BitDefender and Avast, German developed GData brings the two together to form the best anti-virus. GData detected 99.95% of all threats tested and offered the best detection of adware. With its relative low-cost GData is my recommendation for best anti-virus.

2. Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 2010
www.symantec.com $40 (one year, single PC license)
Coming in a close second is the more popular Norton Anti-Virus. The detection rate was 99.49%, just shy of GData. With a great user interface and design, Norton remains one of the better anti-virus programs in 2010 and may better suit non-techie users.
3. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010
www.kaspersky.com $60 (one year, three PC license)
In previous years, Kaspersky has always been at the top, but with this year it has slid down to third. Kaspersky has a wide range of features including a firewall and advanced virus blocking but fails to provide a slick, user-friendly interface unlike the first two anti-virus programs which can get frustrating and confusing. The malware detection also lacks which maybe a problem on some users PC's.

4. BitDefender Anti-Virus 2010
www.bitdefender.com $30 (one year, three PC license)
BitDefender is a decent anti-virus program. Although the detection rate is 99.66%, the second best in the field. What it lacks is a good user interface and fails to remove threats. Only 90% of threats detected were removed successfully. This is defiantly a bargain on price but lacks in some areas where it maybe useful.

5. Panda Anti-Virus Pro 2010
www.pandasecurity.com $50 (one year, three PC license)
Panda Anti-Virus Pro had a 99.83% detection rating, earning it the best in the field. Although it can detect threats, it did poorly in behavioral scans of the PC. Panda also does not come with its own firewall, unlike all the anti-virus programs mentioned. The user interface needs some work around the edges and design could be better. Panda will get the job done, but is a last-ditch option for paid anti-virus programs.

Before you buy, make sure to do research and know what product you want to buy. Don't let the sales people influence you to go with the costlier option, because they say its better. Trust your research and be smart.

Have renewed Norton anti virus for the next year Paid by credit card. Computer shows 'protection expired confirmation # NP11822299

when you have ordered the renewal, you should have received an email with a renewal code. Even if you have not received the email just go to the URL so that you can access your order and get the renewal code. (www.findmyorder.com or http://shop.symantecstore.com/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=ContentTheme&Locale=en_US&SiteID=symnahho&ThemeID=106300&pbPage=OrderStatus&resid=S7XhpQoBAkgAADuUy8QAAAAb&rests=1270210979283)

once you have the renewal code, you can open the Norton program and click on subscription and follow the instruction.

Please encourage us if this was helpful to you.

I am wanting to cancel my subscription to Norton Anti-virus - Product Serial No. DWJR9XGDDC7Y - Order No. VAB42500386. Charged to my credit card on Jan. 6/10 in amount of $47.24 USD. My name is Judy...

Wooooppppssss!!! You should not post your original Serial no. and Name and such things on internet.

Canceling your subscription would be of no use. You have already been charged.

BUT make sure that it is not Automatically renewed next year by canceling that service.

Norton anti virus activation problem

you should have received an email with the activation code in it. If not, the email will have a tech support email or phone number. Good luck

BTW, I never pay for antivirus or spyware programs. I use Avast! antivirus. It's free and comes with a spyware program that is also free. I also browse the internet with FireFox which has all kinds of embedded security unlike Internet Explorer. you can download Firefox from the Mozilla website.
