Blown Optoma EP719 Power Supply

Need to know the value of surface mount capacitor C53.
Looks like D56 & C53 have failed.

    Sorry Junoon007,
The parts listing in your link you supplied does not indicate what it is for and parts listed do not correspond to the known components on the Optoma EP719 power supply module.
Capacitor C53 is located on the under side of the main power supply board next to diode D56. I need the correct value for C53.
    Thank you.

C53 is unmarked. No value indicated on componant

Any body have access to the schematics or a parts list?

    What is the voltage rating?

  • jkre Jan 09, 2009

OK let me see if I can be clearer on this,
The bad capacitor on my Optoma EP719 (identified by the pc board designation C53) which is on the power supply module does not have any markings on the component to identify what value (uF & Voltage Rating) it is.
    No part numbers no nuthin.

I know it is a surface mount capacitor because 1) It is identified as a cap by the pc board label (C53)
C means cap. And 2) I recognize what a surface mount cap looks like because I'm an EET (Electronics Engineering Technician) with 25 yrs of exp. doing component level repair.

So far it seems that the consensus is its a .1uF cap.
Since I haven't seen anything indicating that someone has access to either the schematics or has physically measured the cap or has repaired one of these units I'll just have to take every ones word that that is what it is.

Since I am used to purchasing caps with a capacitance and voltage rating I was hoping to also know what the voltage rating of said cap was.
I know what a voltage rating is, I know what capacitance ratings are I also know how to read resistor codes, like I said earlier I'm an EET. Thank you for the links informing me how to read components (that are marked with the values on them). Unfortunately I am not as well versed on unmarked devices & I don't like guessing.

It's great to know (for certain?) what the capacitance is but without the proper working voltage it aint gunna do me a whole lotta good. Since the diode that is in circuit with this cap is rated at 1Kv, I suspect the caps voltage rating is going to be more than a couple volts.

So lets see what else yall can come up with. Like a true spec, and not some how-to please.

Can you see any value on the blown capacitor , its difficult to say the value as each manufacture number it and do not provide the value in most of the capacitor the value is printed on the capacitor ,can send close up photo of the blown cap..

Good luck...

Hi,

the name indicate C53 or R11 is only a reference number of Capacitor or Resistor of the Manufacturer. you can have the value C53 if you have a diagram of the Optima EP719 Power Supply from the manufacturer.

But I recommend to buy a new power supply than try to repair it, in some reason and experiences

  • after repaired, you cannot restore it perfectly, in a few monthly another repair your going through.
  • because the components circuit in affected area is not good already, your going to replace components to components.
  • if you want really that one to be repaired, replace the whole circuit board than to repair the circuit board.
good luck

I am trying to format an excel cell to do this equation SUMIFS(D55:D56,D55>D56,"=(D56/D55)/100%",D55<D56,"=(D55/D56)/100%") How do I get it to work?

Looks like theres only one if . hopefully this equation is not in d55 or d56. maybe part of this got cut off but parens are also wrong. and quotes are unnecessary excel only writes whats in quotes out. also you cant really operate on two values in the same column. they need to be in separate rows or like you say things flip around

sum might be messing it up to maybe one cell does if and another does sum.

f55
=if(d55>e55,(e55/d55)*100,d55)
this reads if d55 greater than e55 then return the ratio of e55 to d55 as a precent else return d55 to the cell f55.

g55
=f55+e55
then sum the values in a seperate cell

Or if you want the sum in f55
=if(d55>e55,((e55/d55)*100)+e55,d55+e55)
or if eqn is cut off in question maybe its
=if(d55>e55,((e55/d55)*100)+e55,((d55/e55)*100)+d55)
anyway something like that should get you on track

Samsung R88, has no picture but the sound is working. I have checked the capsitors and they are fine any other ideas?

Check for voltage to the inverters. If there is no voltage to the inverter section, check for a surface mounted fuse and check it's condition if present.
Replace the larger value caps in the power supply as some may not show physical evidence of failure. Also remove the power supply board and check the surface mounted devices underneath to make sure there is no sign of a cold solder joint- the same on the inverter section. Good solder connections will look like a tiny volcano on the circuit board with the wire lead protruding from it- with no gaps, or areas that might suggest solder did not fully flow. Reflow solder to those connections if found. The Surface Mounted devices themselves should have smooth transitions in the solder, if not, reflow those with a soldering iron as well.

If there is voltage there, start by replacing the electrolytic capacitors in the inverter section. These will be values like 1, 2.2, 4.7 microfarad at 25 or 50 volts, These are part of the step up oscillator portion of the inverter. If that does not remedy it, check the transistors- a B&K type tester will not always give an accurate reading because the inducatnace is too low in the inverter transformer in circuit with it, so those usually need removal for accurate testing. Sometimes only one transistor needs to be removed.

If those test out okay, or are surface mounted or 4 leads plus tab versions first replace the larger value electrolytic capacitors, those will have values of 220, 330, 470, 560, 1000 microfards(sometimes higher capacities) at 25 or 35 volts. These can fail without visual indications. as they will be easier to remove than the surface mounted devices and likely cheaper too.

The piece that's cracked is called a color wheel. I spoke with the parts department at optoma and they want $300 for a new color wheel for my ep 732h projector. I'm not sure if it's the same part but you can contact optoma on their website and they'll get back to you with a price quote for that part.

Optoma ep719 will not power up

Try this:
There is a stuffed 10v 3300uf capacitor on the power board. You need to replace it.
Bellow you can check in the picture where the capacitor is located.

Notice that in this picture I have already took the bad capacitor out and replaced with two small cords to reach the bottom and test the new capacitor.
To reach this place is not fast, several layers of plastic and metal must be removed, but is not a hard task to take the capacitor out and replace it for another.
It works just great! Now it is back on track with awesome image.
