Blown Optoma EP719 Power Supply

Need to know the value of surface mount capacitor C53.
Looks like D56 & C53 have failed.

    Sorry Junoon007,
The parts listing in your link you supplied does not indicate what it is for and parts listed do not correspond to the known components on the Optoma EP719 power supply module.
Capacitor C53 is located on the under side of the main power supply board next to diode D56. I need the correct value for C53.
    Thank you.

C53 is unmarked. No value indicated on componant

Any body have access to the schematics or a parts list?

    What is the voltage rating?

  • jkre Jan 09, 2009

OK let me see if I can be clearer on this,
The bad capacitor on my Optoma EP719 (identified by the pc board designation C53) which is on the power supply module does not have any markings on the component to identify what value (uF & Voltage Rating) it is.
    No part numbers no nuthin.

I know it is a surface mount capacitor because 1) It is identified as a cap by the pc board label (C53)
C means cap. And 2) I recognize what a surface mount cap looks like because I'm an EET (Electronics Engineering Technician) with 25 yrs of exp. doing component level repair.

So far it seems that the consensus is its a .1uF cap.
Since I haven't seen anything indicating that someone has access to either the schematics or has physically measured the cap or has repaired one of these units I'll just have to take every ones word that that is what it is.

Since I am used to purchasing caps with a capacitance and voltage rating I was hoping to also know what the voltage rating of said cap was.
I know what a voltage rating is, I know what capacitance ratings are I also know how to read resistor codes, like I said earlier I'm an EET. Thank you for the links informing me how to read components (that are marked with the values on them). Unfortunately I am not as well versed on unmarked devices & I don't like guessing.

It's great to know (for certain?) what the capacitance is but without the proper working voltage it aint gunna do me a whole lotta good. Since the diode that is in circuit with this cap is rated at 1Kv, I suspect the caps voltage rating is going to be more than a couple volts.

So lets see what else yall can come up with. Like a true spec, and not some how-to please.

Can you see any value on the blown capacitor , its difficult to say the value as each manufacture number it and do not provide the value in most of the capacitor the value is printed on the capacitor ,can send close up photo of the blown cap..

Good luck...

Hi,

the name indicate C53 or R11 is only a reference number of Capacitor or Resistor of the Manufacturer. you can have the value C53 if you have a diagram of the Optima EP719 Power Supply from the manufacturer.

But I recommend to buy a new power supply than try to repair it, in some reason and experiences

  • after repaired, you cannot restore it perfectly, in a few monthly another repair your going through.
  • because the components circuit in affected area is not good already, your going to replace components to components.
  • if you want really that one to be repaired, replace the whole circuit board than to repair the circuit board.
good luck

The piece that's cracked is called a color wheel. I spoke with the parts department at optoma and they want $300 for a new color wheel for my ep 732h projector. I'm not sure if it's the same part but you can contact optoma on their website and they'll get back to you with a price quote for that part.

Optoma ep719 will not power up

Try this:
There is a stuffed 10v 3300uf capacitor on the power board. You need to replace it.
Bellow you can check in the picture where the capacitor is located.

Notice that in this picture I have already took the bad capacitor out and replaced with two small cords to reach the bottom and test the new capacitor.
To reach this place is not fast, several layers of plastic and metal must be removed, but is not a hard task to take the capacitor out and replace it for another.
It works just great! Now it is back on track with awesome image.

Optoma EP719 lamp does not come on

Ok, so forgive me, I'm going by memory. Take the top cover off (4 screws on the side). Take the top silver shield off, look at the screws and only take off the ones you need. It's ok if you take more off, but its just more screws to track. You will need to take off the back outer cover. You will need to unscrew the hexagonal screws that the vga-out port uses to screw the connector to, as these are holding the back plate on. Once you get in, the board you need to look at is on the bottom back. Look for a capacitor that has a rounded top, not flat like the others. You will need to replace this with the same voltage and capacitance. Try an electronics site on the internet to get the right replacement if you cannot find it locally. Sorry for the poor instructions, but its just been too long. As a practice, take pictures as you go (during removal of parts) and you can use them to reinstall. Hope this helps as mine is still working.
