Question about Samsung HP-R5072 50 in. Plasma HDTV

Samsung HP-R5072 50' Plasma. Has sound, but no picture.

Hello. I have a 2.5 year old Samsung HP-R5072 50' plasma TV. Last week it started malfunctioning. When I turn it on, the picture will usually be there, along with the sound. But then, without any warning, the picture will go out, but the sound will still work. This happens randomly. If I leave it on, sometimes the picture will come back for a while and then go out again. It happens without any warning and with no clear pattern. The only thing consistent about it is that the sound works. Anyone know whats wrong and/or how to fix it before I spend a lot of money to get it fixed? Thanks!

The Y-main board is going out, or the Y-scan buffer, but probably the Y-main

JVC PD35D30 Plasma won't turn on anymore...

Yeah, I was going to suggest power supply issue. Plasmas IMHO, are not worth spending the money to fix. Its the reason why they are so cheap these days in comparison to LCD's. I had a 50" Samsung Plasma that went out on me within 2 years (E Buffer board and XMain problem). Its not about the manufacturer but more about the Plasma technology. Do a few searches about plasma and you will find a lot of problems with these tv's. Id say cut your losses, sell the TV for parts and buy a more reliable technology

5 year old plasma that looses half the picture

Hello. I recommend that you forget the repair for two reasons. 1. Pricey. 2. You still have a 5 year old set with no warranty. In the last five years, the tv technology has come so far. The HD is fabulous. The new sets cost less to operate and they are so much better than they were five years ago. Joe

Samsung Plasma TV

from the model number you have a 42" set,,the v_set and v_scan voltages need to be set 15vdc lower..this should take care of it,,if not then the plasma panel is bad
