Question about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router

1 Answer

The router has to be reset and we do not have the manaul .

We do not have the manual to reset the router for the computer that is hard wired in and I know that both computers have to have the same netwrok key in order for the comptuers to talk to each other. Do you have a free down load of themanual for the wgr614 router, or how do I get the password and the same network key for both computers?

What router? There is usually a reset button located on the back of the device near the AC jack. If you post the Make, Model of device it would be helpful. OR, "Google" the device for a User/Setup Manaul.

Hi i have foggoten my pass word to my router and need to change the security settings to stop some one having access thanks Chris

If some one is accessing the router it's probably because there is NO PASSWORD, on the other hand if you had a password and gave it to that persone and can't remeber it you need to RESET the router to factory default (according to manual) than re-configure the device... (with a good password that you will remember)...

How to hook up to my modem, which wires go where? I have not used it in a while and cannot find the manual.

The port off to the side by itself is the one that should connect to your modem. If you have any wired computers, plug those in on any of the 4 grouped together. If the router does not function upon connecting everything, do a hard reset by holding in the reset button for 20-30 seconds. You will need to reconfigure it from a browser by visiting the address

My hardwired computer gets on line but the other two wireless can't. I've reset the router several times but no luck. Checked all the connection still no luck.

Check if the router is assigning IP addresses to the Wireless devices. Also se if you hard-wired desktop has been assigned an IP address manually. Else try to assign IP's to wireless devices manually (Depends on your setup)

Please rate if helpful.

Routers modem light keeps flashing and booting me off line but when i hard wire computer to modem as i am now it works fine. changed cables and reset computer and modem

Flashing lights on a router are routine - they indicate connectivity and traffic.

Seems to me the simple answer here is stay connected by wire. Wire runs much faster than wireless. Wireless is 10 <> while wire is usually either 100 or 1000. If you have to have wireless, do a hard reset on your router and also reload the drivers. Check with the manufacturer for any soft or firmware grades they may offer. If you find a firmware upgrade - make sure you understand the instructions before you start. If you fail in this department, you will have to replace your router. Had you given a little more information on this, I could have done better with links and such.

I have forgotten my password for my zyxel router. Is there anyway i can find it out? If not can it be reset, if so how do i do it?

If you forgot the password of your router. If ever you already change it from default, resetting is the only way now I know. If default consult your manual.

There's always a reset pin on every router. Go to manufacturer's site and download the manual for your particular model. Scan thru pages and look for Resetting the router.

Tried to do a hard reset on router and the default password smcadmin as well as adminsmc wont let me in to check settings only happens on the comp that is hard wired but not on any of the wireless

You need to try again to reset the router to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug themfrom the wall.
2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it,then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
5) Power down the router.
6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to theinternet port).
7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, makesure it is off).
9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start"button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS boxwill appear. Enter the following: "ping" (no quotes), andhit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Replyfrom ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from...", your computer has found your router.
10) Open your browser and point it to This will take youto your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the passwordfield, enter "admin" (with no quotes, or enter whatever your default router password is). This will take you to yourrouter setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listednear upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup therouter manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup andworking.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, yourrouter is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then eitheryour router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksystftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. Afterreloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and modelof your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.
