The same thing happened to my camera, searching on the net for an answer and i found this. Strange, but it worked. Set your camera on a flat surface with the lens facing up. Tap it a few times and try again. Sounds silly but it worked!

You could be having a power problem, or lens issue. The following blogs discuss things you can try to get the camera working:

and:

If nothing helps, contact a local camera shop to get an estimate for repair, or contact Canon support:

Good luck, and hope this helps.

Turn the power off and on again

Hi,

The Turn off and on again error message displays when there is an internal malfunction or a malfunction with the Lens. The error message normally displays with the issue with the Lens. Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Try power resetting the Camera.
Turn off the Camera.
Remove the battery pack.
Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
Then, allow the Camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.
Re-insert the battery pack and check if the Lens retracts.
You can also try resetting the Camera back to factory default. To reset the Camera back to factory default, select the INITIALIZE option from the Setup 1 Menu of the Camera to OK. (Menu-->Setup-->Setup 1-->Initialize-->OK.)

This should resolve the issue. If the issue persists, service may be required.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Cyber-shot DSC-W55 Digital Camera: sonyW55 lens only comes out half way ,can not take...

1.Please reset the Camera to its factory defaults and check if it helps.
2.To reset the Camera, select the INITIALIZE Option from the SET UP1 Menu of the Camera to OK.

If you're not able to access the menu option in the Camers, try this:
Power Reset the Camera and check if it helps
To Power Reset the Camera, please remove the Battery Pack from the Camera and then press the POWER button for 30 seconds. Then, reinsert the Battery Pack after 1 minute and check if that helps.
Please Power Reset the Camera and I am certain that it should resolve the issue. If the issue still persists after Power Resetting the Camera, then it requires service.

Sony dsc-w5 lens not returniing

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Low battery maybe? Try holding camera firmly in one hand, with camera on and in record mode, and strike in on its edge firmly on the heal of your other hand. This technique is often sucessful with temporary camer 'quirks' like freezing, lens not fully retracting, etc.

The Lens Error usually means the lens has sand or another obstruction stopping it from retracting.

"Turn the power off and on again" error message

You probably have a defective lens assy. When turned on lens has to move to certain position but because of broken gear or some mechanical problem it can not perform that funtion. Remedy is to disassemble the lens assy and repair the problem. Many time the whole lens assy are replace to repair the problem. normal repair charges for this kind problem is $125-200 in US depending on parts use.
