The battery is flat and possibly the adapter or the power connector on the laptop is faulty and therefore could not charge the battery.
Get a multimeter and check the voltage on the plug that plugs into the laptop, it will let you know if the power adapter is faulty or not. If possible borrow one and connect it to your laptop, make sure the adapter is the same as your one.

My toshiba is charging but onlythe cord out lets bliking what does that mean

Plug the adapter into the wall outlet or power strip. If using a power strip, make sure the strip is on. Most laptop power adapters have a small LED light; the light will illuminate when power is being transferred from the outlet to the adapter. If the light illuminates, chances are you have sufficient power to supply your laptop. Wiggle the power cord if the LED light did not initially illuminate. If the light turns on and off when you wiggle it, you might have a loose cord in the adapter, or the outlet could be faulty. Plug the adapter into another power outlet, preferably a different circuit in another room, if the LED light did not illuminate the first time. If it lights up from the second outlet, the first outlet either does not work or other devices were using too much power on the initial circuit. Connect the other end of the adapter to the laptop and turn the laptop on. When the computer starts up, you should see an indication of how the laptop is being powered in the lower right-hand corner. If you see a battery icon, then the laptop is being powered by the battery, not the adapter. Make sure both ends of the adapter are securely connected. If they are, and if the LED light on the adapter is lit, then you likely have a faulty wire that is not properly connecting to your computer. If you see a plug or adapter icon, then the laptop is successfully being powered by the adapter. If the LED light on the adapter is not lit, then the bulb is out, but the adapter is still working.

I have plugged in my new laptop correctly but when I tried to switch it on the laptop does not respond. Is my laptop broken or am I missing something?

Hello,

Thank you using fixya.

Here are the things that you need to do:

1. Use a different power outlet. Maybe the outlet is bad.
2. Check the ac adapter. check if the light is lit. The light is a power indicator. If there's no power on it, then, you have to make sure that it's not broken or it's connected properly to the power outlet.
3. Check for any power indicators in the laptop. Like lights lit or the charge indicator. If there's none, then, the laptop is not receiving any power. It might be caused by a defective battery.
4. Remove the battery. Plug in the laptop to the ac adapter without the battery on it. Check for power indicators. Press the power button.

Let me know if there's any development. Leave me a message in this post.

No power only plug light and battery light is on

Hello,

The lights are indicators of which operation does your laptop operates.
1. Power indicator is lighten to green meaning you are in the mode of charging your power.and if the power indicator turns to orange meaning you are now using battery power or the charging is finished.
2. Reading indicator is blinking meaning your laptop is currently processing but if the Reading indicator is not blinking and made a static light then your system is in hang up or not reading the processes.
3. Wireless indicator is blinking or lighten then you are in the a wireless mode connection. Also the bluetooth and Infrared connectivity.
So please check which light indicator is lighten when you on your laptop.

Thanks

A85-S1072 laptop is dead in the water

It is either the ac adapter or the ribbon/cable that connects from the power on button to the motherboard. I disassembled the same model with the same problem and found that the plastic cable/ribbon fastener on the mother board was broken. If that is the case you may be able to use some type of adhesive that is also an electrical insulator to repair the problem.

You might have a short in the jack that you plug the power adapter into, which means that it is only sending power to the laptop but not to the battery. Your batteries are dying because they can not be charged. You might have to take it to the shop. Check and see if it is still under warranty.

Turn on

Have you checked your power adapter with a digital multimeter? Maybe run it by your local radioshack or computer super store if you dont have a DMM and see if someone can check the voltage on it. Maybe your adapter died, then the laptop was running on battery until it went dead.

Another quick check, remove the battery all together. Plug in the ac adapter... does it turn on? does it show any lit led's indicating it is plugged into the wall? try wiggling the connector at the jack on the laptop, does that light any led's or cause power to be restored?

Toshiba Satellite 1135-S125 front LED indicators gone weird

Hi The strange operation of those LED's is most probably an error mode indicator. If a laptop fails to power on corectly it will use those LED's, lighting in a specific pattern to signal the error. That's an example. In your case something was damaged in some way because the error code indicator is still acting like there is an error. You may try to reset the BIOS to factory defaults (small chances that this will work) and leave the laptop unpowered for about 1 day. If the problem is still there you will need to have it fixed in a service center. By comparing the LED lighting pattern with information from the Toshiba service catalogs they will be able to tell you what kind of error had happen for wich the LED's to light in this manner. Sorry for my bad english, I live in a non-english speaking country. Good luck and don't forget to rate any answer received from this site.
