Question about Sewing Machines

Should I get this?

I do not know how to sew. I want to learn how to make simple things like Pillows and quilts. I have a neighbor who will sell me her Brother XL2010 for 40.00. Is this a good price? Is the machine hard to use?

It just started making a knocking sound when sewing but is still sewing good. What could it be.

I suspect that the needle /hook timing could be out and the hook is hitting on the needle or the needle is hitting on the bobbin case
could be a bent needle

Do i have adjust tension when free motion quilting on janome 6125

No but need free motion foot, FMQ is A bit of an art, slow hands and even stitching. Doing a class is a great way to learn as stipple quilting looks great but takes practice.

Speed control

I haven't sewn on this model in about 10 years, so I am rusty. I don't recall a slide or switch to set the range of stitch speeds, so one of the things you need to do is learn to feather the pedal instead of just stomping it. You can often figure out how to block the pedal travel with a couple thicknesses of cardboard cut to shape, or a piece of pencil eraser to mechanically block the highest pedal pressure, but usually it's just better to learn to control the pedal. Finally, the best free motion quilting is often done with high speed stitching but moderately slow fabric movement.

Free motion quilting on a kenmore 19606 sewing machine

Did you remember to put down the presser foot? I know that sounds silly but that is the one thing people forget the most when doing free motion.

Can I use my singer simple 3116 to quilt

you could probably do light quilting on it, you'd probably
need to buy a extension table for it.
here's a link for parts for the the machine, they do have a extension
table you might be interested in.

I have a White 955 machine and I am trying to quilt with it. It works just fine when I am sewing just one piece of material to another but when I want to sew the layers of the quilt together the stitches...

I know this is strange, but make sure the pressure foot is down. When I quilt sometimes, after getting the bulk under the needle, I forget to put the pressure foot down or it get's knocked back up by the quilt and causes the same problem. Good luck.
