You can use the DVI connection, or the digital HD rca connections on the back. You can also get a dvi to hdmi converter plug.

I have a mitsubishi HD1080 series TV and wanted to know how do I plug in a dvd player. Then how do I get it to play.

Connect an HDMI cable from the DVD's HDMI port to an unused HDMI port on the TV. Select the input from the settings menu and name it DVD or select the DVD name. Turn the DVD player ON. Using the input select button on the remote, select the HDMI DVD input. Wait a few seconds while the TV and DVD player establish a connection. The DVD player menu should appear. Insert a DVD and enjoy a movie. Hope this helps. Regards.

What channel does my hd1080 tv have to be on to work with my dvd player ?

Not on a channel, but an input number. when you connect the dvd player with hi def cables or an HDMI cable look at what input nimber it's connected to. Then select input button on the remote and choose the same number you saw on the back of the TV.

How do get the tv to work with my dvd player

You should be able to just connect the set via an HDMI cable to your DVD player for it to play. You then will have to select using the TV remote the HDMI connection the DVD is connected to.
I do not believe the TV will switch to the DVD player automatically when connected via HDMI. My TV doesn't, though it's not the same as yours.

Why can't I receive in HD? i have the hd1080

Your set will only convert to 480p. There is no way a conventional crt based tv will get 1080p. The proper connections will be using the RGB component inputs on the jack panel ( red, grn, blue ) then the white and red for audio. The picture will be a lot better than standard cable but not as good as HD. ( 720p )

Nope, But your convergenjce chip is about to die. i would turn it off and leave it off and call a tech to rectify it before it takes out the whole board or all 3 as some capacitors are also overheating. Parts $100+Labour of about 1.5 hrs at this stage! later it will be $600
