Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Toshiba model # 46HM94P we just got a new Digital box from the cable company. All of a sudden we can't get the TV to come on. We use the remote to turn the TV on and it clicks, and shuts itself off and on, and off and on. No picture, or sound, just flashing green and red light and clicking itself off and on. HELP.

So you don't think it is the TV, it might be the cable box? I did call the cable company and they had me unplug the box for about 20 seconds, and plug it in and turn it on. It booted itself and then I tried to turn it on with the remote, like they told me to and the tv still didn't come on.

I am having the same problem. Suddenly the tv just keeps shutting off and on. I cannot see any picture, but have sound. I have unplugged the tv for at least 12 plus hours. This a.m. the problem continues.

61A61 TV IS WILL ONLY PICK UP ONE CHANNEL #66 AND NOT CABLE INPUT

Cable companies are slowly but surely reducing the channels you can get without a digital box, which they will supply. You will need to cantact them and rent a HD cable box or converter from them that will work with your displays built-in tuner. However, if your display is HD compatible, then I would just asked your cable company for and non-DVR HD cabe box and connect it to your display with component cables....

Is my akai projection tv digital ready or do i need to purchase a converter box.

depends if you have a cable service. Cable companies will still broadcast in analog because they are a closed system same with sat. only other way to tell if you have a digital tuner is by one a cable/satalite card or when doing the tv programing it asks digital?

Pixelation

This model has been known for problems with the Hyper module but the picture would be affected with any input source.HD or not.The cable converter box and the cable signal are the only culprits for pixilation.Pixalation is the result of missing digital information via signal. If it is only appears on the HD signal I would suspect the cable signal or the converter box.I assume you are using your component input on your TV or the HDMI input. As a technician I would suspect the cable box or cable for pixalation.

New Toshiba 37" flat screen always displays Closed Captions. Feature is turned off with TV remote, feature not available on Cable remote. Toshiba says it is Cable company problem, Mediacom cable can...

I've had this problem for a bit, it seems that there are two ways to turn off the closed captions.
1:Menu--->Preferences--->CC and Digital Audio Selectors. This displays the menu on the bottom of the screen with the choices of Closed Caption formats and digital audio. This is not the correct menu to be in. This turns off the CC as long as the TV is not turned off or the input is not changed. This is a temporarily either turns the CC on or off.
The Solution:
2:Menu--->Setup--->TV Settings--->Closed Captions Settings Displays a menu in the center of the screen, with the options of Turning the Closed Captions on and off, the Analog CC Mode and Digital CC settings. You must turn the Closed Captions off in this menu or the changes to CC are temporary.
For the record:
1. I'm aware I'm 2 years late on this, but I just want others to be able to solve this issue on their Toshiba. Don't worry, my Toshiba is the same age as yours
2. I've lost faith in Tech Support ages ago. I'm sorry that they were that incompetent.
3. Its ridiculous that there are two entirely different menus to alter the closed captions. Took me forever to figure this out.
Hope this helps you and others.

Redish distorted cable picture until I change input source and then go back to cable input

When you say brand new, just how new is it? Your unit could be covered by the warranty. Certainly something worth checking into. If it works fine on all inputs except cable and the cable box has been changed your problem is probably in the digital receiver in the TV. This is something you will need a qualified repair tech to look at but should not be an expensive fix (compared to the cost of the unit). First make sure it is not covered under warranty. Free is still better than having to pay! Good luck.
