Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have an HP Pavilion dv6000, and out of the blue, after i shut the lid, and let it hibernate, when i open it again, it will not turn back on. The only way to get it to turn on again is to hit the "Quickplay" touch buttons above my keyboard. Then it will wake up and go into the quickplay screen, which i have to then exit. then it will go back into hibernation, then imediatly resume windows just like nothing ever happened. Also, at this same time, my sound stopped working all together as well.

go into power options in the control panel, and set your options to never turn off display or never go to sleep and monitor settings, this should resolve your settings, don't forget to save the settings.
    post back if more problems

Computer shuts down on its own

Open Control Panel, Power Options, set to High Performance, open Change Plan settings, open Change Advanced Power settings, set Sleep and Hibernate to Never, adjust advanced settings to your preference. Always shut down your computer when not in use, it will last longer, If you don't have a UPS, will help protect against power surges.

When I take the computer out of the standby mode

Try this:
  1. Update the BIOS and Video driver to the most current on http://support.dell.com
  2. Disable the screen saver
  3. Enable HIBERNATE instead of standby in Power settings, set the LCD to go off in 10 minutes, HDD to 15 and Hibernate in 20.
Select Shutdown, Hibernate
then try and restart

If no GO, disconnect all peripheral items except KB

Try hibernate again and restart.

If all works OK, add items back one at a time till you find item causing issue. If no go, replace power supply if issue still occurs, replace MB

When I shut down my computer, I think that it is shutting down completly. All lights are off indicating that it is shut down. Then a small blue window will appear and will say "Entering Power Safe Mode"....

If you are turning off your computer by pressing the front panel power button, it is probably just putting Windows to sleep but not shutting the computer off. If your computer has Windows Vista, the default is to hibernate and not shut down even if you shut down through Vista. The "power save" message you see is coming from the monitor, which is letting you know it isn't getting a signal from the computer anymore but the power is still on. Windows will start up again from sleep mode if someone or something moves the mouse or presses a key.

The solution is to make sure the computer is actually shut down. In Vista you can do this by clicking the arrow near the power icon on the Start menu. This gives you the option of shutting down instead of hibernating. In XP, shut the computer down using the start menu shutdown option instead of the computer power button. Then the power will shut down completely.

When i shut my laptop the tv i use as my monitor goes blank.

Right click the power icon in the system tray (should look like a little plug with a lightning bolt on it.)  Click on "adjust power properties."  Click on the "advanced" tab, then where it says, "When I close the lid of my portable computer," select "Do Nothing."

My hp pavilion dv6000 laptop does not turn on, the blue buttons light up, but the screen stays off

Try it without the rechargable battery connected sometimes the battery shorts and causes problems.
Do you have FN[function] keys at the left side. touch FN key with something else and see if screen comes back.Sometimes you can turn off the screen to send it to the back connected monitor.Connect (extra if you have) an external monitor to the back (vga) connector. If that shows, then you have to ""flutzz" with the FN(function) & F1-F12 keys

You are confusing Hibernation, where the RAM is written to the HDD and power is turned off without unloading the OS, with Screen saver (control panel - display).
