Set the clock by pressing "mode" and changing the values using the tuning and volume buttons. as for keeping the backlight on 25/7, that's gonna be difficult cuz there are usually only 24 hours in a day.

If you have a universal remote, try its code search function to find a suitable code. If you search through all codes stored in the remote without success, you may have to try another universal remote.

I have a slim 1500 that goes into and stays into stand-by

Check to make sure there is no short in the speaker wires. It is more than likely intermittent part or bad solder joints are responsible for the shutdown.

Hi,
For Fisher SLIM 1500SL model, I figured it out as below.
1/-Plug into AC & you will see Standby ON with AM 12:00.
2/-Press Timer button & you will see TIMER at left top corner.
3/-Press and hold Standby button until entire screen is ON & Standby goes OFF. Everything will go from here- play CD, radio, etc.
Goodluck.

Backlight only comes on when the power button is pushed

It doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong. It sounds like that is the way the unit was designed. It's a power save feature.

Can you see the time on the screen if the room light is on? If not, the backlight won't do you any good anyway.

Unless there is some sort of menu that allows you to change it, you're probbaly stuck with the way it is. It's all in the software thats programmed into the microprocessor and that's almost impossible to modify.

The only thing I could think of is to find the backlight voltage line and power it directly off of the power supply (using isolation diodes), keeping it on all the time. This however requires you to take the unit apart and dive into the electronics - something you may not wish to do.

Fisher Slim-1500 power cord

I would suggest that you go to your local electrical store like Dick Smith they have a good range of power cables...

But you really should take the Fisher Slim-1500 into the shop with you to make sure that the cable connects correctly...and is not modified in any way...
