How long is the warranty on a linksys? My linksys is about 1 year old and is now not connecting to the internet. The linlsys company is saying that I need to pay 29.99 to extend the tech support. Is this normal? I ddint knwo that I had to extend this each year.
You can also try to connect to the routers administrative console. Lyksis default admin IP (in your web browser) is http://192.168.1.1/; this should connect you to the administrative console, if you've never configured this the username is Admin and the password is blank, you can probably find the user documentation online if you don't have the install cd. If you find the menu for wireless and then security you will be able to see and/or set your WEP and the encryption type, then you can copy this to your other computers on your network so they can all connect to your router securely.

Re: Problem with WRT54GV8
This WRT54G v8 unfortunately has only a 1 year warranty from Linksys and that is the reason why they want to charge you for the service, if you like you can try first to reset the router using a pen by pressing the reset button for about 10 seconds and then after that run again the setup CD of the router to reconfigure it...

Open the setup page of the router. Go to Administration tab. There you will find the place to change the router password. Change the password, confirm it and click save settings. It will log you out. Re-login with the new password.
If I understand you correctly. You cannot connect wirelessly at work with you laptop but you can connect with your desktop. 1. The laptop has to be allowed on the network by either MAC address ( Media Access Control) number or an IP (Internet protocol) address. 2. This is done by the administrator of the router. To allow the device to be seen by the router and and assign an IP address to that device to gain access to the server and be able to connect to the Internet. 3. At work you will have an IT administrator that will give a password/ user name to allow you to obtain access to the company server. I hope this helps. Have a great day.
Connect your computer to one of the LAN port of the router, access the IP address of the router (IP 192.168.1.1), for the connection type choose PPPoE, type the username and password provided, Check the IP address under status (WAN section if the IP address is 0.0.0.0 then click connect)
The router only needs some reconfiguration and its still not bad, since you're having prblem with it and since the router is still under Linksys warranty better call them so one of their tech support will be able to walk you through in making this router work again, This is the number for Linksys 800-3267114 you can call them any time of the day...
I have att yahoo dsl which I installed about a year ago. The process required bridging the ADSL Modem (in my case a speedstream 4100) and accepting dynamic IP addresses and configuring PPPoE on the WAN side of my Linksys router. The ATT support person walked me through the entire process over the phone even though I was comfortable with making the Linksys configuration changes as I had to do the same in China without technical support. The modem configuration was no more difficult than the router configuration as it was performed from a web browser too. The biggest warning was that to reverse the modem change (if desired) required use of a reset button because the web interface was disabled as a result of the configuration change. My advice to you especially if you are willing to attach the Linksys router to the telco modem is to contact the ATT highspeed DSL support line and see if they will walk you through it like they walked me through it. Reviewing your Linksys User's Guide and understanding the configuration of that device would probably be appreciated by the ATT Support person as well as assuring you can access the Linksys router to configure it during the call.
first insert your pcmci linksys card into the laptop, you would find a found new hard ware screen, insert the setup disk, and then follow the steps, automatically your card would be installed, once the installation is done, the wireless adapter , would detect wireless signal, try connecting to the wireless network.. if it asks for any key, look at the bottom of your 2 wire router you would find a 10 digit number, enter the number as the number as key code or password, automatically you would get connected.. if case if you have any problem , revert back ..
