I just bought some guy at my school's psp and it wont turn on when i try any of the batteries, he hasnt given me the charger yet but should the batteries atleast turn the screen on for a second? If not then I'll know it's broken. I am also very unfamiliar with psp's any advice is welcomed.
No, the PSP will not turn on if the batteries are completely drained, as in, absolutely ALL power has been used up. It's like flashlights. If they run out of power, they won't turn on for even a second. So your PSP is fine, just needs to be charged.

Did you try to use the charger and turn on the PSP? If you use the charger and the psp turned on, the problem would still be the battery, you bought a defective one and have it returned where you bought it.
If it did not turned on using the charger, the problem would be internal, a micro fuse might have blown up and needs to be replace. An experience technician in PSP could replace it, because it needs to use soldering.
Hope that helps you out!
There is a lot of things that might be rong 1 it might be the psp slot where the charger goes it might be damaged in the inside and the more u put the charger in the worse i might get. 2 it could just be the charger something might be rong with it from the wire to the top where it goes into the psp slot . 3 There might be something rong with ur psp battery it might just be damaged . Hope i helped . Go 2 a shop and ask them 2 check it for u. L8a
Your PSP has just bricked. It may cause an error while you're upgrading your PSP or while playing the game.
Try this: 1. Pull the battery out. 2. Let it turn on while charging. 3. If your PSP LED power indicator turned on for 10-20 secs and the screen not turn on, it means you're really bricked it. 4. So what do you do? 5. You need extra PSP for making pandora battery and jigkick memory stick. 6. You'll need this link: http://www.psp-hacks.com/2007/10/16/pandoras-ultimate-magic-stick-installer/

the way 2 know if tis charging is wen u plug in ur charger 2 ur psp on da right a orange light should appear and stay ther eas long as its charging . wen it goes away it should be blank. if this doesnt happen on urs i dont know why. it should have come wiv a anual in ur psp box unless u have bought a used 1 from someone in dat case dey mite have not given 2 u for whatever reason. i hope dis helped=)
Yes the battery could very much be dead since the PSP hasnt been used in quite a while. I would go to a store such as walmart or target and buy a new battery. Charge this one and try it in the PSP. If this doesnt work, return the battery for a refund and send the PSP in for repair to SONY.
this is easy i solved it! buy a charger from gamestop that you have to take the battery out and then put it in the charger and charge it that way! that way if your fuse inside your psp is out it will charge the battey without putting it in the psp so all you do with the item is: take your battery out, put it in the alternative charger from gamestop (does not come with psp slim 2001 or 2000) plug the charger in the while charge the battery then bam!! there you go problem solved have a fun time playing your psp!
