Question about HP OfficeJet 6310 All-in-One Printer (Printer/Scanner/Copier/Fax) w/USB Printer Cable , Retail

No Scan Options

It scanned when it was connected to another computer with no problem. Today I had to disconnect that computer because it got sick! A virus, one would presume. When I have a spare 10 hours i'll reconnect and try to debug it. When I hooked it up to this computer-to which I tried to eliminate any chance of another virus-it says "No Scan Option."
I really need to get this done. I own a group home where I care for psychiatric patients-in my home. I am trying to post an Open House e-mail to get new clients. Please help me. Thank you! Thank You! Thank you!

    No, the wonderful HP Officejet 6310 - which I was able to successfully install the first time I ever tried installing anything, does not scan.

Follow these steps in the order presented to resolve the issue.

Step one: Verify that the Digital Imaging Monitor is ready

The Digital Imaging Monitor must be running in order for the Scan To function to work. The Digital Imaging Monitor icon

normally appears in the system tray at the lower-right corner of the computer screen, and the monitor is ready when a check

mark appears on the icon after Startup is complete.

If the Digital Imaging Monitor is in the system tray, proceed to Step two.

If the Digital Imaging Monitor does not appear in the system tray, follow these steps.
Windows 98, Me, and XP

1.Click Start , and then click Run .
2.In the Open text box, type msconfig .
3.Click OK .
4.In the System Configuration Utility window, click the Startup tab.
5.Search the list for HP Digital Imaging Monitor .
6.If HP Digital Imaging Monitor is not on the list, the driver was not correctly installed or a custom install was used.
7.Proceed to step three to uninstall and reinstall the software.
8.Select the HP Digital Imaging Monitor check box.
9.Click Apply , and then click Close .
10.Click Yes to restart.

Windows Vista

1.Click Start .
2.In the Start Search text box, type msconfig and press Enter .
3.On the User Account Control window, click Continue . The System Configuration Utility window displays.
4.Click the Startup tab.
5.Search the list for HP Digital Imaging Monitor .
6.If HP Digital Imaging Monitor is not on the list, the driver was not correctly installed or a custom install was used.
7.Proceed to step three to uninstall and reinstall the software.
8.Select the HP Digital Imaging Monitor check box.
9.Click Apply , and then click Close .
10.Click Yes to restart.

Step two: Populate the destination list

1.The destination list must be populated in order for the Scan To function to work. Follow these steps to populate the
destination list.
2.Open the HP Solution Center. Use one of the following methods to open the HP Solution Center.
3.On the Windows desktop, double-click the HP Solution Center icon.
4.On the taskbar, click Start , Programs , or All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
5.If more than one HP device is installed, click the tab for the All-in-One product. The HP Solution Center shows only the
functions, settings, and support options that are appropriate for the selected HP product.
6.Click Settings .
7.Click Scan Settings and Preferences .
8.Click Scan to... Setup .
9.Click the Destination List tab.

NOTE: Depending on the computer performance, it can take several minutes for the Front Panel Destination List to populate
after the printer or computer is turned on.

10.If the Front Panel Destination List is empty, continue with this procedure.
11.If the Front Panel Destination List contains valid scan destinations, proceed to step three to uninstall and reinstall the
12.Click each program to include on the Scan To list.
13.Click the Add arrow.
14.Click OK .
15.Scan a document using the Scan To button on the front panel.
16.If the scan fails, try to scan using the HP Solution Center Scan button.
17.If the scan still fails, proceed to Step three to uninstall and reinstall the software.

Step three: Uninstall and reinstall the software

1.Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM drive of the computer. The software installer should automatically start.
2.If the software installer does not automatically start, complete the following steps.
3.Click Start , and then click Run .
4.In the Open text box, type X:\setup , where X is the letter of the CD-ROM drive.
5.Click OK .
6.On the installer screen, click Uninstall . If there is no Uninstall option, the software installation is incomplete.
7.Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM drive of the computer. The software installer should automatically start.
8.If the model supports custom install, install HP Imaging Device Functions to scan from the printer. The recommended install
will install this feature automatically. It must be manually selected during a custom install.
9.Follow the onscreen instructions until the printer software is completely installed.
10.After successful installation, scan a document.

Step four: Service the product

If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem, service the product.

I have a canon MG5220 printer and unable to scan properly the messages I receive are saying Scanner turned off, disconnected from LAN, code 2,145,50. Printing pictures and all other printing jobs work...

Regarding the Cannon scanner error 2145,50. I note you have tried to fix this, but failed. The actual problem is that the scanner will not communicate with the computer correctly if it is connected through a USB hub. A direct connection to the computer cures it.
I know, I had that problem. I am a retired elctronics design engineer.

All of a sudden my printer won't scan anymore. It says no scanner options. Is there free updates to solve this problem. I have always been able to scan until recently.

While computer is on, Disconnect the usb cable(listen for the disconnect beep beep), Do a Full Restart the computer. Then reconnect the usb cable into a different USB port on the rear of the computer (wait a few minutes), then try the scanner options again. Sometimes thats all it takes.

When trying to scan a photo from the c7280 to the computer the printer displays the following error message No Scan Options : refer to documentation and troubleshoot. This is not covered in my printer...

That's because it's not a printer problem. The scan options are in your computer in the scanning software for your machine. Before you can scan you need to be connected to your computer with scan software running to tell it how to scan, what you're scanning, and where to send and save the image you scan.

The scan options are in your computer. You need HP scanning software installed and running and of course you must be connected to your computer.

Cannot use scan...when I put a document in the tray and press "start scan" it says " no scan options" and "refer to device documentation" what to do?

You need to have it connected to a computer with the scan software running. The scan options are in the computer. It tells what type of document to scan, how to save it, JPG, PDF, etc. and where to send the scanned image.

In order to scan, you need to be connected to your computer with HP scanning software running. No scan options means it needs to know where to scan to, what format to save in, and what to do with the scanned image. If you want to copy, you just copy, but scanning requires software on your computer.

Problems Scanning

I would delete the twain scanning driver and reinstall, but first disconnect the usb cable from the pc and reconnect after you install the scanning software.

When I try to scan, it reads "No Scan Options".

Try scanning from the solution center. If successful, check the scan button settings if you can see applications available on the 'Destination List'. Add all the application to the right side. Close the solution center and try to scan.
