Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I lightly dropped my camera on a carpeted floor and now my AF light (the orange light) on my cybershot camera doesnt work. How do I fix it? Do I really need it? Everything else works fine.

I think I may have burned out the light because the indicator for the AF light is still showing up on my LCD screen.

As far as I know, the autofocus (AF) light is needed only in lower light conditions to illuminate the subject. You may not be able to rely on it working without having good light available so you should try some shots in poorer light to see if it is really not working before depending on having in-focus snaps.
If you don't use it in low light conditions, you may not miss it.

I don't doubt you may have damage but I suspect the light source is an LED since incandescent sources use 3-10 as much power as an LED.

Finding anyone except a 'factory authorized' repair station to fix it may be difficult.

    Good luck-

My sony cybershot wont turn on but has not been dropped, what may be the cause of this?

You seems to have a bigger issue than anyone can offer advice on this website. Consider taking your camera to a service centre for professional diagnosis and if possible a fix on your camera.

Orange light stays on and camera doesnt switch on

Water is second only to fire as being the most destructive thing you can subject your camera to.

Sorry, but it is a write-off. Even after drying out there will be residual and ongoing corrosion and retained moisture in internal components. This is specifically why your warranty is invalidated by such damage and why no camera repairer will even attempt a repair.

All you can do is to see whether you can claim for accidental damage on any insurance policies which you may have.

Zoom lens will not open - camera will not open

Drop the camera onto a carpeted floor from about a foot and a half to two feet. I did this once when my DSC-H50 had the same problem and it immediatly began to work again. It landed just on the fron edge of the cylinder around the edge. I left the lens cap on. Many people have had this same problem with other sony models and it works well for them as well. I know it sounds far fetched which is why I am including this link: http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/digital-cameras/sony-cybershot-dscp200_question.html?qid=3653

That is where i found the information to fix the same problem you are experiencing.

Turn the power on and off again

I fixed this issue with my Sony Cybershot by gently (carefully) hitting the camera 3 times against a carpeted bench with the lens retracted and the camera turned off. It seems the lens gears were stuck. Now the camera works fine again.

DSC P52 cybershot camera

I cannot provide the answer but i think it may have something to do with the shutter mechanism. When you dropped it, something inside the mechanism may have bent or stopped. Don't take the camera apart yourself, take it to a specialist such as an electronics store. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
