Sorry to say that it sounds like one of the cells in your battery has 'died'. It will show a full charge when sat on the bench but as soon as you put a heavy load (like the starter motor) on it it won't want to know. Only solution is a new battery.

SOURCE: Dead battery even after 12 hours of charging?

it sounds to me that you could just have a bad connection at the battery post. look to see if there is any corrossive build up on them. this can happen over time. it is also possible you have a dead cell in the battery. your best bet is to remove the battery and take it to any major auto parts store. most of the major retailers will check the battery free of charge. hope this helps

SOURCE: battery not charging light comes on. new battery

I don't know what kink of car you have, but some will have a alternator fuse, also with a volt meter check voltage on big wire at back of alternator should have 13.5 + volt's, then check voltage at battery should have same voltage there also, do this with car running, if you do not have same voltage at battery less short between alternator and battery or bad fuse. There also some fuse links at starter on some car's.

SOURCE: 2009 Impala won't start. First message

turn on your car and remove the ground cable from the battery, if the car dies it's time for a new alternator, if not take your battery in to be checked. The other message(traction control) may be just due to a faulty battery/alternator.

KIA Optima 2013

Usually when batteries act like this it primarily has to do with the alternator not providing about 14vdc to the battery and not keeping it charged. Doing a quick charge usually does not do much of anything. Do you drive the vehicle often? Did it start at the change to cold weather? Your battery may need a full charge. You can take it to an auto parts store and they can do a free analysis for you. Did you buy the right battery for the car? If you bought one that did not have enough CCA (cold cranking amps) they will die quickly. Doing a full charge on a battery takes hours. A trickle charge will not do it. Have the battery tested is the best course of action. If it tests okay, then do a full charge.

Is the charger to be "on" while charging it; then on while hooked to battery?

The portable charger should NOTE be connected to a battery while the battery is connected to a vehicle! Charge the battery off the car, then disconnect the charger and put the battery into the vehicle to start it! If the charger is not working check the fuse! If that is ok then probably damaged the circuitry!

99 grand am was driving home battery was about to die so i tried to make it home before it died

Can't say what the thud was..but it certainly sounds like your alternator is not charging your system.. When it isn't charging and the car is running off the battery the car will do some weird things as it loses its.battery power then just die....Auto zone should have found that and not just charge the battery..get yourself a small car charger at autozone $25 -40 or so and charge it again and have them make a full charging system check..good luck..

Truck will not keep and charge over night

The battery won't keep a charge or it won't when it is in the truck? Will the battery keep a charge if you put it on the charger and then unplug it overnight, all of this out of the truck. Then in the morning will it start the truck. If not your battery is bad. If it keeps a charge and will start the truck and then it goes dead after several hours, your truck is drawing a load on the battery. You will have to find what has been left on or shorted out.

Sounds like battery or battery cable problems to me.
If the battery is bad, you cannot trust ANYTHING the computer is telling you. They tend to set all kinds of codes when the battery has a shorted cell. (including fuel pump circuit and transmission system codes) They get "delirious" from malnutrition. You need to have your charging/starting system thoroughly tested.

A new battery should have approx 12.62 fully charged
It could be slightly more
If you ever see 13 volts, on an old battery, it is gone

You need a min of 12.5, to do any testing of your vehicle, or you charge it
It should hold 12.5 or more for 3 or 4 weeks, then charge, if you let the truck sit
unused.
