Spilt a drink

I spilt a drink on my laptop last night. When I turned in on this morning everything was working perfect. When I came home after work and turned it on, this horrible beeping noise kept coming on. The computer was still loading and turning on but this beeping wouldnt stop. I just left it off just incase. Anyone have any idea?

I don't know if I can solve this here. But the beeping noise is your pc trying to tell you what is wrong with it. Somewhere there are pc beep codes. http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1223 If these can't help you just put "computer beep codes" into google. Here they are:
Beep Code: Description of Problem: No Beeps Short, No power, Bad CPU/MB, Loose Peripherals One Beep Everything is normal and Computer POSTed fine Two Beeps POST/CMOS Error One Long Beep, One Short Beep Motherboard Problem One Long Beep, Two Short Beeps Video Problem One Long Beep, Three Short Beeps Video Problem Three Long Beeps Keyboard Error Repeated Long Beeps Memory Error Continuous Hi-Lo Beeps CPU Overheating

It is very possible that you shorted out the motherboard somehow. The beep codes were created by the motherboard companies. Since your laptop starts, back up your files. This is a long shot but its worth a try--dry it out. Keep your laptop on until it is nice and heated, Laptops create a lot of heat, so maybe being on will dry out what is causing the problem. Then turn it completely off--unplug it and take out the battery. After it is cool to the touch (6 hours or so), turn it back on and see if the beeping is still there. After this, a visual inspection may be warranted or a trip to the pc shop. I do not recommend changing a mb yourself. Some laptops are really difficult (i.e. Dell).

Tip

HOw to Clean your keyobard effectively

Keyboard cleaningIf you're trying to clean a laptop keyboard see document CH000780 for additional help and information. All of the below information applies to standard desktop computer keyboards.
Why? Dirt, dust and hair can build up causing the keyboard to not function properly.
Procedure: Many people clean the keyboard by turning it upside down and shaking. A more effective method is to use compressed air. Compressed air is pressurized air contained in a can with a very long nozzle. Simply aim the air between the keys and blow away all of the dust and debris that has gathered there. A vacuum cleaner can also be used, but make sure the keyboard doesn't have loose "pop off" keys that could possibly be sucked up by the vacuum.
Why? If the keyboard has anything spilt into it (ie: pop, cola, Pepsi, Coke, beer, wine, coffee, milk, etc.), not taking the proper steps can cause the keyboard to be destroyed.
Procedure: Below are a few recommendations to help prevent a keyboard from becoming bad once a substance has been spilt within it.
If anything is spilt onto the keyboard turn the computer off immediately. Once the computer is turned off, quickly flip the keyboard over helping to prevent the substance from penetrating circuits. While the keyboard is upside down, shake the keyboard over a surface you do not mind getting wet or that can be cleaned up later. While still upside down, use a cloth to help clean out what can be reached. After you you have cleaned the keyboard to the best of your ability leave the keyboard upside down for at least one night allowing it to dry.
If a keyboard does not work after trying it again later it is recommended that it be replaced. If the keyboard works but some of the keys are sticky or cannot be pressed in you can attempt to do additional cleaning in attempt to resolve the issue. Unfortunately many times when any sticky substance such as a non-diet pop is spilt directly onto the keyboard it's usually a loss unless you plan on spending dozens of hours attempting to clean each key.
Why? A keyboard that is used by multiple people, such as students or different employees, may need to be disinfected to help the spread of germs.
Procedure: Turn off the computer. Spray a disinfectant onto a cloth or damp a cloth with alcohol and rub each of the keys on the keyboard. As mentioned in our general cleaning tips, never spray any type of liquid onto the keyboard.

My dell dimension 2400 doesn't boot up. I turn the computer on the computer will turn on for like 1 - 2 seconds, clicks, turns off for 1 - 2 seconds, turns back on, then starts the fans and cd drives...

It sounds like the laptop is having problems with P.O.S.T boot

had it been dropped or had anything spilt in it?

the clicking sound sounds like the HDD may be damaged possibly from shock if its still under warranty you can try returning it but if it has been dropped they won't repair it but you could try claiming on your home insurance if you have any

My son has spilt coke on the laptop 1 key not working O

If you spill drinks on a keyboard, something is bound to break, and apparantly only the O key did... The only way to fix it is to get a new keyboard, I'm sorry. I hope this helps, Yannick.

I've spilt coffee on my laptop and would like to ask if there's any way of getting it out other than taking it to the work shop?

you can try and clean it yourself
eventually your going to get corrosion in the laptop from the liquid.
#1 RULE NEVER EAT OR DRINK AROUND YOUR LAPTOP
I would take it to a repair shop so it can get a proper cleaning and maybe prevent corrossion

Most of my keys on my keyboard are not working a drink was spilt on it

Most likely it needs to be replaced, but there is one last thing you can do.

Since there is no "officially sanctioned" way to get all the sticky gunk out of keyboard, here is a solution I have personally found to work: wash it in the dishwasher. Make sure that you place it in the top tray upside down and tie up the cords so that they don't fall and get stuck in anything. Also be sure to turn off high heat before doing this or you will melt the parts inside. After a wash cycle (No soap!!) take it out and lean it up on its side against a wall in a warm dry place for 48 hours. Do not use a hot dryer! You can also stick it in a box full of uncooked rice too, which will draw every drop of moisture from it. Once completely dry, plug it in and all stickiness should be gone.

I have spilt a drink on my laptop, however I have managed to get everything working except the keyboard. Is there a way to remove the keyboard in order to make sure it is fully dried or to replace it?

Hi Stacy,

My suggestion is that you put your laptop batteries out first. And check your whole laptop checked from service center.

I have a PCR-262 Casio cash register I am having trouble

hi. This is a very simple machine. if you can't get nunmbers, try typing them in each different mode (i.e can you get them if you try in PROGRAM, X, or Z mode?) It can be a printer lockup, as it won't allow operation if the printer is jammed. If you turn it on at the wall while in REG mode, you should hear the printer run once. If not, that's your problem. Otherwise I'd say you have keyboard failure - drink spilt in it??
