Question about HP DeskJet 5550 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Just won't print

I changed the black ink cartridge (56) and have not been able to print since then. Have checked cords to printer, have replugged the power plug, have turned printer off/on, have removed all queued documents and started over - nothing.  Green power light is on.

It did not attempt to print. However a friend managed somehow to get it to print a few documents but soon grinding noises came from inside the printer along with a faint, odd smell.  I finally turned it off, disconnected it entirely, and, in desperation, bought a new hp officejet J6480 so I could get on with my now heavily backlogged print queue.  Thanks for trying to help but it's too late.

Exactly the same thing has happened to my printer. It just won't print black at all even though I have done all the calibration tests etc. Colour prints fine but black just prints blank.

Do you think there is any way to resolve this at all?

Do you mean that it does not attempt to print or prints blank pages?

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like there was an electrical failure. It probably was rendered uneconomical to repair if it was on the logic board.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

The printer's lying to me

The printer requires both cartridges to have ink before the printer will initialize and operational. Even if you are only printing black and white both cartridge have to contain ink or the printer will error out. This is standard on all ink jet printers from every manufacturer. You will have to get ink before you can print.

We have just put a new black ink cartridge in our printer and now it won't print. The computer says it is error# 5200 and to see the user guide. The manuals don;t have any info to help. I have tried...

Error 5200:

Start with printer powered off
1. Open cover of printer and verify that the ink cartridge carriage is not in the center of the printer. Leave cover open.
2. Unplug the electrical cord from the printer and wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug electrical cord back in, when ink cartridge carriage moves to the center of the printer quickly unplug the electrical cord again. This should leave the ink cartridge carriage in the center of the printer so you can get to it.
4. Lift up the gray arm that surrounds the ink cartridges.
5. Remove the entire ink cartridge holder (not just the ink cartridges). It will lift out easily as a unit. Lower the gray arm that you lifted to remove the cartridge holder.
6. Close printer cover. Plug electricity back in.
7. There should be a message about checking the ink cartridge on the display (I can

Try to reseat your cartridges. Unplug and replug your printer into the power source to reset itself. If that doesn't help, try to clean your cartridges and check if print quality improves. If you're using Windows, go to Start -> Programs -> Lexmark X74-X75 -> Lexmark X74-X75 Solution Center -> Maintenance -> Clean print nozzles to fix horizontal streaks.

Having trouble fitting new ink cartridge

Hi, when an ink cartridge runs low in your HP Officejet 5610 All-in-One printer, you will see a message on the printer's display screen. Faded-looking text or pictures also indicate low ink. Ensure print quality by replacing ink cartridges when they run low.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

* HP #27 or #56 black, #22 color or #58 color photo print cartridge, or compatible equivalent

Turn printer on if it is off. Never attempt to change the ink cartridge if the printer is off. If it is off, it will not properly position or release ink cartridges, and attempting to change the ink cartridges may damage the printer.

Open the print-carriage door, located on the right side of the printer. The print carriage will automatically move into the access area.

Push down on the top edge of the cartridge you are replacing to pop it out of its slot. Remove the print cartridge and discard or recycle.

Pull off the protective tape on the new print cartridge using the pink tab. Do not touch any part of the cartridge except the black plastic. Touching the contacts or ink nozzles under the protective tape can damage the cartridge and result in poor print quality.

Hold the cartridge upright and push gently forward into the empty ink cartridge slot until it clicks.

Close the print-carriage door.

HP7660 Photosmart Printer

It comes with HP #57 (C6657 A)—Tri-color print cartridge and HP #56 (C6656A)—Black print cartridge and the 56 must always be in there (the black one) but acceptable replacements for the color one are as follows: HP #58 (C6658A)—Photo print cartridge I suggest for the best photos use 58 and 56.

Black ink not working on HP C5180 Photosmart

Try a hard restart, which simply means unplugging the power cord of the printer, and replugging it after one minute has passed. If that does not work, then rerun the CD used to install the printer. Both techniques reprogram the electronics, to a certain extent.
You can also visit the HP website, to see what solutions are being offered for various printer problems. They probably have a number to call, in case you need to talk to a technician.
Hope these suggestions help you out.
