When I turn on my camera there is a message on the LCD screen saying zoom error. From there the camera will not take any photos though I can still look at photos that are in it's memory. Does it need to be taken to a service centre for repair or is there something I can do myself to reset it?
Thank you.

Your lens assembly has become jammed due to impact or contamination.
You can try GENTLY manipulating the extended lens using slight side to side pressure and twisting motions back and forth. Sometimes this will free a component which has jammed out of alignment. Be VERY careful you can easily damage the lens further if you do not use extreme caution. If this method is going to work it will take minimal force to free the components.
If this does not work you will need to find a service center to take the camera apart and re-set the internal components in the proper alignment.
