Question about PC Desktops

GT5228 will not boot up..

I have a GT5228 and when I turn on the PC the front light comes on once and then goes off. My fan runs all the time. Then the pc just sits
there and does nothing. Ihave already checked all of the external parts and the voltages from the supply and they are good.

Ay help would be appreciated.

In my description I did say that my CPU fan is running. I unplugged it and the PC still does the same thing.

Sounds like you should check the cpu fan. If it isn't working then your system will shut down as a safety precaution.

I am sorry for not knowing you meant the CPU fan ltlawsonjr as there is also at least one case fan, possibly video fan power supply fan etc.....

Since you've pretty well covered the hardware side you may start thinking about the software. The MBR (master boot record) can become corrupt which will keep it from completing the boot process. If your haven't got it up yet it may be helpful for you to look in that direction. Also a virus can cause system not to read boot files properly.

How often should a fan go on on a gateway? Mine is not running and computer freezes then I have to manually shutdown and turn back on

The fans, especially the one on top of the processor, should run all the time. If it is not there is a problem. The computer is shutting down to protect itself from overheating and burning out.

You need to get it repaired asap.

Gateway 5228 wont boot no lights on keyboard

does it load the bios screen? Does it get to the windows load screens if it does go to the bios screen? Does the computer power on at all?

Sometimes what happens is the bios chip can be faulty or die and this will have to be replaced to fix the issue. If the computer is not powering on then it is more than likely a power supply issue.

(just in case, you might want to make sure that all of the adapters that come from the power supply are connected to the motherboard as well)

Fan runs but will not boot.

Remove all external devices first like printers etc and then try again.
If it doesn't work then you will have to open the computer case side panel so we can start troubleshooting some parts.
If the machine has warranty then you should rather take it back before opening it.
when the case is open first make sure the power is disconnected and the case must be laid flat on the ground.
look for the memory RAM ,if you have two of them then try booting with one and vice versa ,if you only have one stick then remove it and reinsert it into the next available slot.
If that doesn't help then disconnect the data and power cables going to the harddrive and CD ROM drive.
The last option is to change the power supply ,if it still doesn't start then its most likely a motherboard or CPU problem.

Good Luck

PC shuts down while running Windows

Attempt to boot the machine in Safe-Mode.

While powering up continuously hit F8.

You will get a Boot Option Menu, Select Safe-Mode boot

If you can get into safe-mode I would suggest to try doing an online scan, as it sounds like your issue could be related to malware:

Boot into safe mode and see if you can either roll back the driver restore the computer to the date right before you downloaded it.  the link is for directions on how to boot into safe mode.   Another option , if you have on board graphisc alos is to hook up the monitor to the onboard  turn it on in BIOS and change the driver for the card using the onther graphics.
