Question about GE Spectra JGBP35 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Low Heat from GE XL44 gas range

I have an old XL44 GE gas range (JGBP35WEA2WW). Burner ratings (as per manual) are 1 x 5000, 2 x 9500, & 1 x 12000 BTU. The unit is around 9 years old. We feel that it cooks and heats too slowly. We are looking to buy a new range, but most of the models I see have similar BTU ratings. Could this be a problem with our current range? Should I expect similar heat from a new range of similar rating? Any other factor that influences heating from burners?

Thanks a lot for the advise. The model has fixed (non-adjustable) orifices. But I just cleaned it for now. Thanks.

You can increase the sides of the flames by opening the orifices, if not differences. make the orifices holes a bit bigger, you can have as big of a flame as you want. those orifices are at the connection of the burner with the valve that supplies gas to the burners.

The oven pilot does not light. The broiler will not work. The only thing that does is the light. GE XL44 range. The burners light and the pilots stay lit.

If you have standing pilots, make sure the pilot for the oven/broiler is lit as well.  When you turn the thermostat up to call for heat, you should see the pilot get larger. That larger pilot flame heats a hydraulic sensor and opens the main burner valve.

My GE XL44 Gas Range (Model JGBP34 GEP 1A) control

If you like the stove and it in good shape otherwise, have it fixed. The parts are still available. The stove in good used condition (without leak) is probably worth $75.00. May cost that much to repair it. Will cost approximately $450.00 to replace it with equal range. If it's a standing pilot model (no electricity needed) they are unavailable and your new range will require power to use the oven. Hope this helps.

Natural Gas to Propane for Ge xl44 Gas range

The kit is located at the rear of the range right near the gas valve, there are probably 5 spuds and an extender for the large burner, directions are with the range. For the bake and broil you will need to tighten the brass orifice nuts down as tight as possible, also the brass nut on the gas valve needs to be reversed
your local LP dealer should be able to do this for you if you are uncomfortable doing it yourself.

    Stove top pilot light

I have a GE Gas Stove XL44 the stove top buners don't light by themselves without manual lighting. When I turn on the buner knob the buner doesn't click. Also I used my self- cleaning oven for the first time and stopped it before the time was up after that is when the stove top buners wouldn't light by theirselves.
