Jenn-Air JED8430 Electric Cooktop Logo

I have a KitchenAid KESS907SSS 30" Slide-In Electric Range with a broken glass cooktop. I have the replacement cooktop and want to do the replacement myself as I live on a remote island. It looks like there are two screws behind the front control panel which need to be removed in order to facilitate the removal. Is this correct? Is there any other things I need to be aware of before I start this project? thanks, Fred

Hi,

Problem solved. Followed the instructions given and successfully changed the cooktop.

It turned out that the front control panel needed removal in order to access the screws behind it. After that it was clear sailing.

Thanks for your help with this.

I need to replace the glass top on a jenn air JES8850BCS slide in range. How do I do it? Can it be done leaving the range in place or does it need to slide out for the replacement? Thanks.

It looks as if you need to remove the whole cook top to replace the glass top, incidently that is a 400 dollar item, so you have to take care. See: http://www.partselect.com/PartDetail.aspx?Inventory=2341162&SourceCode=5&ModelNum=jed8430#RepairStory

The circuit breaker for out kitchenaid glass

Water probably did get into the switch(es). The best bet for a fast fix is to pull the knobs off and use an air can (like for blowing dust out electronics) to blow down into the holes. This will dry out any water in there and should allow you to use it again. To be extra sure, blow out the switches and leave the knobs off over night. In the morning the knobs can be replaced and the cook top should be good to use. Hope this helps!

I was cooking popcorn on my glass cooktop and the pan appears to have scratched to surface.

You may have melted the bottom of the pan you were using into the glass. Copper bottom and alum pans sholdnot be used at high temps on a glass top. (never use porclin or glass pots)High temps can etch(mark or discolor) the glass.

Kitchenaid 36" glass cooktop with small crack

A small crack, turns into a big crack, Short of ordering a new piece of glass, there is no "fix" sorry. YOu can continue to use it, but eventually it will run across the cook top, and then shatter the glass... Better be safe than sorry.

Staining of kitchenaid glass top digital control unit

Have you tried using a razor blade scraper. Also I have found Ceramabrite cooktop cleaner to be a very good product. There is also a less abrasive scouring pad available specifically for glass cooktops.
