Notice: Upgraded Flex-Cable for Flip Screen in Navigation Models AVIC-N1 and AVIC-N2 To: January 3, 2007 Dear Valued Customer: Re: Upgraded Flex-Cable for Flip Screen in Navigation Models AVIC-N1 and AVIC-N2 We would like to inform you of a potential service issue with Pioneer's AVIC-N1 and AVIC-N2, inform you of our plans to resolve this service issue, and ask for your help in notifying consumers. If a consumer is not experiencing any issues currently, there is no need for the consumer to take immediate action because the one-time fix to resolve the service issue will be available if an AVIC-N1 and AVIC-N2 later experiences the service issue. _Importantly, the service issue does not pose any health or safety risk._ Pioneer is aware of a potential issue with the flex-cable powering the flip screen to the AVIC-N1 and the AVIC-N2. After a number of power cycles, the cable has been observed to fail and cause the unit to malfunction (symptoms may include, but are not limited to, the flip-screen becoming blank) -- flex-cable failure can only be confirmed by Pioneer; standard service charges may apply for service issues not related to the flex-cable upgrade. This issue may affect almost all AVIC-N1 units and AVIC-N2 units. Please contact Pioneer at the number listed below if you have a question about whether your AVIC-N1 or AVIC-N2 unit is affected by this issue, or if a specific malfunction affecting your AVCI-N1 or AVIC-N2 is related to this issue. To address this issue, Pioneer is providing a one-time cable upgrade to consumers for their AVIC-N1 and AVIC-N2 at no charge to consumers for parts and labor. Pioneer will offer the free upgrade either upon request or automatically if an affected unit is serviced for another reason. Pioneer will exclusively perform the free cable upgrade for all units (i.e., no other service facility should perform the cable upgrade). If you own an AVIC-N1 or AVIC-N2 and you are experiencing the service issue, please contact Pioneer Customer Service toll free at 800-421-1603 to arrange for the cable upgrade. Pioneer service representatives are available Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Eastern Time). Customers who have paid for the cable upgrade are eligible for reimbursement of certain service costs if sufficient proof of service can be provided -- please contact Pioneer at the above-listed phone number for more information regarding reimbursement rules. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this service issue may cause you, and we thank you for your cooperation and continued support of Pioneer. Remote not working

To check if a remote control is working, put in fresh batteries and point it at the lens of your video camera (turn night vision on if it has it) and push the buttons one at a time. You should see white light flashes out of the LED. If none, remote is dead. If some work and some don't, you can try taking the remote apart and cleaning the pads and contacts with 93% rubbing alcohol and/or a pencil eraser. If remote works, TV or whatever might be the problem. Best of luck.

The remote control for our 26C3030 Toshiba television has stopped working. None of the buttons work and you have to function the televsion manually by using the buttons on the actual tv. We have tried...

Most of the time the remote CPU is shorted and the remote is dead. But some time by taking the remote aparts,by cleanning the PCB board with some Q tips dipping in with some rubbing alchahol.Wait like about half hour, put the remote together again tried it,might work again, might not. Not,try website like Remotes.com to buy an exact remote to ur original remote.

Remotes working sporatically

Your description suggests bad/dirty contacts inside the remotes and jammed volume buttons on one of them. Cleaning the rubber pads and the circuit boards on all of the remotes might solve the problem.
Use some ethyl or isopropyl alcohol and cottonwool to clean them.

By the way, here's a nice way to test a remote using your mobile phone's camera:

Turn the camera on, point the remote towards the camera lens so you can see it on the mobile's display.

Look at the display on your mobile phone and press buttons on your remote - you should see bluish/greenish flashes from your remote's emmiter each time you press a button on the remote (the camera on your mobile shows infrared light from the remote as visible light on the display - if it doesn't do so in the normal mode, try the night mode for the camera instead).

If you press a button and there are no flashes, that button probably has a bad/dirty contact.

if the remote is making flashes even when the buttons are released, this means that a button is jammed (you need to clean the rubber pads and the housing, especially the holes where the buttons come through as there's probably some dirt that keeps the button pressed in, which causes the volume to go up/down all by itself).

hope this helps...

Bose Remote not linking to Samsung HDTV

I got my bose remote to work when I did a system update on the remote. Turn the TV on. Select the TV video input that connects the system. On the control console, press and hold setup until the system information screen displays. line 5 will display the currently installed console software version. on the remote press any button. Line 10 will display the currently installed remote software version. Do a bose system update. On the control console press setup. on the remote control, press the down arrow until update is highlighted and press ok. make sure yes is highlighed and press ok. on the control console plug a clean usb drive into the usb port.when prompted, remove the usb drive and connect it to a computer. open the drive and double click on the download_launcher file, which should bring you to an update page on bose.com. Once complete, put it back in the control console. When the update is complete remove the usb.

try stripping your old remote and cleaning it, i find cleaning the contacts on the pcb and the buttons themselves with aftershave is the best
