Question about Computers & Internet

"SymCUW has stopped working" is the message that i get all the time after the sistem starts on my computer. I wanted to change my anti virus "Avira" with "Symantec Corporation and realised it was just a free trial version and i had it removed from the computer, since then this message appears all the time on the start up!

I am trying to uninstall the old norton antivirus in my toshiba notebook. But very time I try to put in a new antivirus, I get a message telling me to first uninstall the one I have. But the darn program will not uninstall. It shows the process of the green line going to the end. I sit there and wait for the next message to inform me that it has uninstalled and to continue, but I get no continue message. The box just sits there, and after playing that little waiting game I hit the x in the left hand corner to turn it off. Next problem is the box just sits there, and the only way I can that off is to turn of my laptop.

When the computer comes back on I get a message "SymCUW has stopped working correctly. Windows will close this program and notify you if a solution is available" CLOSE PROGRAM.

to my knowledge, windows does not notify?

When travelling , I have tended towards using use web mail vs. Outlook from MS. This has meant using the rogers.com ISP (i.e. Yahoo) and not our own server. (rogers.com webmail is actually Yahoo, just the domain name differs. The cost of the Internet service from rogers.com includes Norton from Symantec, the theory being to protect email traffic. Since the rogers ISP customer is already paying for most of the Norton security suite it made sense to download the relevant Norton products and services... better than buying some other security app. and additional licenses for multiple PCs. I alert new users that I regret very much much my decision not to use some other security . That's hindsight, but I write this to save others the cost and aggravation that Norton INFLICTS. [btw: the problem I speak of applies to various--- MANY if not all-- of various Op systems, PCs of different 'vintage' etc. Personnel in our corp., (incl'g TLC Group) have learned that once you install Norton from Symantec , UNINSTALL is very difficult. Even when user eventually succeeds in removing this horribly 'clingy' app. i.e. uninsulated, you find you can't easily install a different security suite . Norton, even after it has been uninstalled, starts to scream (it screeches) dire warnings; Norton the "Cling-On" continues RELENTLESSLY to present warnings. Norton's from Symantec lurks in the registry , and hides in many secret places. We (TLC group) could get around SOME of Norton's horrible stickiness. However the problem FORCED us to buy a powerful commercial anti-virus-antispyware. That is an expensive workaround , one that Norton has no right whatever to inflict on users. I figured that it would waste less payroll hours --- enough actually to buy new PCs. (I bought three HP PCs for working at house & other out-of-office locations. That's when we found that that was no solution. the new PCs I bought came w/ "trial software". Not a problem, one just installs the trial apps. one doesn't need. It was simple uninstall all the trial programs.. EXCEPT the darn Norton's trial . Nortons suite just doesn't go away and leave the user in peace. Nortons programs continue to lurk in the PCs. (Others do, also, but Norton is incredibly aggressive, and WILL harass the user. I figured suing Norton's publisher would take more time than it would be worth. So now I have other new PCs , bough just to be rid of Nortons, and still have Nortons software bugging me DAILY. Yes I hv sought help from professional IT types , and other well-qualified techies: no luck. The consensus is there is no simple way to a workaround to remove (forever) Norton the Cling-Ons. It seems that the publisher Symantec marketing strategy is to get sales, and assure annual renewals, by by exhausting the user. Norton's parent parent Symantec need to take this dumb , unfair practice seriously. (I hope, I trust , they'll see this post , and provide a just and reasonable solution. Nortons can actually sell MORE product if they wd just STOP harassment of their own clients. To the many who hv had this dumb , unnecessary aggravation inflicted on them, my sympathies. As for Norton's ceo and VPs : you are so out of touch w/ clients, it is mind boggling. You are flirting (risking) a major class-action suit (I hv drafted documents to that end). I shall hold the legals ; at some point, if there is no helpful response , each board member will get a copy of a formal notice delivered to their address of record. And if you think I am being unfair, SUE me . My name below is my legal name. This message is NOT marked "without prejudice" . Your security suite is good for some ; simply update yr clingy software to allow clients to uninstall . It is not difficult. Not amending the app. is playing w/ fire... what long term benefit to shareholders and other owners? Adam Okhai , TLC Group, Ontario Canada , NC, and WA, USA

How can I check if my current Licence has expired?

I am not sure if I understand what you want to know, because the licence number of Avira actually has nothing to do with logging on a saved file.
Open the Avira configuration. There you will find how long your licence is still valid .In case it has expired you would have gotten a message from Avira, a pop up, asking you if your want to prolong/buy a licence.
