Volume not working on remote

For quite some time now the volume doesnt work on my remote. At first the volume up stopped completely and volume down worked intermittently but now neither work. Is this a receiver problem or remote problem? I also have a Kenwood receiver which remote did not work but turned out to be problem with receiver. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Why could my volume knob be stuck on max volume and not adjusting?

There is probably grease or dirt on the contacts inside the unit. Here's a video that shows you how to fix it:

Most remote controlled volume pots are motorized. To be sure your remote isn't the culprit, set the volume and take the batteries out of the remote effectively killing it. If it still continues to fall off in volume, relocate the receiver to a different room to rule out environmental issues of it picking up a stray transmission from some other device. If all else fails take it to work if you can and see if it does it at a completely different location. If it still does it you'll have to take it to a shop for repair.

Try a reset to factory defaults and reprogramming your preferences. Time consuming, but sometimes things go bung inside the microprocessor controllers.

Yamaha rxv 870 - volume does not work from remote(s)

hi i have the same problem. yamaha rx-v870 with a remote control that works perfectly except for the volume up/down. i pressed the buttons for a minute and applied some lemon gunk remover liquid and this helped for a very short period. i am wondering if the problem is with the little motor inside the receiver that rotates the volume knob itself, as opposed to an infrared problem on the transmitter/receiver.

Programming time warner remote to boston tvee volume

I had just about given up on programming my Time Warner universal remote with my Boston Soundbar until a mental lightbulb came on. This is a two step process. Step 1: Program your Time Warner remote (I have CLIKR-5, instructions available for other models at Using Pre-Programmed 3-digit Code method -Turn on soundbar - Press device button (I chose AUX) and OK/Select simultaneously until device button stays lit. - Point remote control toward the soundbar and enter code (447 for Boston Acoustics) - Press the device button again to store the code. The TW instructions say you should now be able to turn the device off to verify that it works, but this is not true for the soundbar. Hang in there with me. Step 2: Program your remote from the Boston Soundbar. - Press the power button and the volume up button simultaneously until the indicator light flashes orange. Here's where the instructions provided with the soundbar fail to explain how to do this. Each button is individually programmed into the TW remote. What you have done so far is enable the remote to accept the programming. - Volume Up: press the volume up button on the soundbar while it is flashing, the light should become steadily orange. - While holding the remote steady about a foot away from the soundbar, slowly press the volume up button on the TW remote four times. The orange light should flicker each time you do, turning green when completed. - Volume Down, Mute, Power: repeat the steps for Volume Up, except press the button on the soundbar you wish program to the TW remote while the soundbar is flashing orange. It should become steady before you press the corresponding button on the TW remote. Good luck, I hope this helps. -Deidre.

Trying to synch my remote to the new tvee model 25 sound bar and can't get the orange lights.

I had this same problem and it was due to their instructions which do not adequately explain the setup procedure.

On my own, I was successful in programming volume up but that was all. I assumed that for volume down I would hold the power button and the VOLUME DOWN button and wait for the flashing light just as I had for volume up. Problem is, you never get a flashing light.

Today, I spoke with a rep from Boston Acoustics who patiently explained that step one of the instructions has to be done the same way each time as it is the step that puts the soundbar into programming mode.

It is only at step 2 that things change.

The solution is to hold the power button and the Volume Up button every time in order to get the system into programming mode. Once the light is flashing, in order to program Volume Down, you then hold the Volume Down button until the light goes solid. Once the light goes solid, then press the volume down button on your remote 4 times slowly. Works like a charm.

Works the same way to program the mute button. Follow step one to get the unit in programming mode. Once the light is flashing, hold down only the mute button until the light goes solid. When the light goes solid, press the mute button slowly 4 times.

OBTW, this was programmed with a Logitech Harmony 650 remote unit.

Hi I have a marantz cd63 cdplayer can I turn down the output volume on the machine as I have no remote due to a big ******* sitting on it and I cannot find my users manual thanks email...

Adjustable volume on a sound source is actually rare but not unheard of. Most devices output at the maximum volume and rely on external receivers or preamps to deal with the volume control so it's not a common feature and yet we all live without it.

I had one once and the only time I ever used it was to fade out while recording.

The RC-63CD remote is available here for $58

Volume control on unit

Kent, Unfortunately, it sounds as if the encoder is broken. The encoder is a digital input which takes the place of a traditional volume control, and is what holds the volume knob in place and spins. Since it works fine with the remote, that means everything else is ok, but you will have to replace, or have a tech replace, the encoder itself.

Comcast remote

The volume keys should be working by default, but you may have volume punch through turned on (meaning the remote is sending signals for TV or CABLE volume function no matter what mode you are actually on). To unlock volume control for AUX mode, do the following:
1. Press and release AUX
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 993
4. Press and release VOL-
The remote should blink four times to confirm unlock.
