Volume not working on remote

For quite some time now the volume doesnt work on my remote. At first the volume up stopped completely and volume down worked intermittently but now neither work. Is this a receiver problem or remote problem? I also have a Kenwood receiver which remote did not work but turned out to be problem with receiver. Thanks in advance for any advice.

My audio remote control stopped working on only the volume. It works to power the receiver up or off, etc., and the volume control works perfect when operated by hand, but no longer with remote.

Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check it by pressing all the keys. You can detect the presence of infra-red emission from the remote control, using a cell-phone camera. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, please visit this site. Why doesnt the volume on my remote control work?

The wrong code on the remote has been used. Though some codes will work parts of the system only the right code will operate all.
If you don't know the code for the TV, then you will have to try ALL the codes until you find one that operates all the controls.

I have a Sony KDF-55WF655. I think the IR sensor is going bad. My remote occasionally stops working for no reason. I have tried numerous different remotes, but I get the same problem no matter which...

The IR receiver inside the television is becoming intermittent and needs to be replaced. You might also check the connections on the receiver small circuit board for cold or loose solder joints.

I have sears opener #139.53989. Every once in a while I have a down problem. It goes down within an inch of the floor and reverses. Sometimes I can hold the wired remote button and it will go all the way...

If the main light flashes 10 times when the door reverses it is a sensor problem. Check them very closely. If they are just a little off one of them will be flickering but it is difficult to see. This can also cause the problem to be intermittent. Tweak them just a little.

It is normal for that light to blink randomly.

Mitsubishi ws65711-Volume bar always displays/remote not working

Just solved my problem. Found out that the down volume button must have been sticking. Tapped on it a number of times and finally the volume bar went off and then the up volume worked fine. Looks like the down volume button on front panel is intermittently getting stuck. This happened last year but went away before I could figure it out. Maybe going to try and blow some compressed air in button socket.

Remote, menu button, volume up buttons dont work anymore

You need to open the remote unit and clean the touch pad contacts and the circuit board contact points with pure isopropyl alcohol.

Grease may have worked itself into the remote an has caused those button contacts not to produce the data signals.

Remote no longer works for volume control

Guys, I might have accidentally found the problem because the fix worked for me :). I have the RX-V995 and for the last 2+years or so, I had resorted to getting up and using the knob manually for volume control. System will show 'voluem up/down' in the display, but the knob didn't rotate. Same problem as yours.

I was getting ready to buy the service manual, find the knob motor which I thought was the main culprict and replace with a new one.

So I took out the top cover (just a few screws), the front face-plate (again just a few screws. The inner details were all visible. The volume knob circuit board was vertically placed. They were all covered in a good layer of dust. I got my Dyson vacuum cleaner and gently and carefully tried to **** up all the dust that had settled down. With soft front brushes, I agitated the dust I couldn't reach with dyson wand direclty, once dust were loose, dyson did a great job even with picking up those last dust pieces.

I couldn't succeed in taking apart the volume knob circuit board, as I was still awaiting for the service manual. I put all the covers back on and guess what? I used my remote and the knob was moving again. Responding very well, the knob made the full turn, when I was on the remote. It has been working perfectly for the last few days now.

I think I know what was happening. Teh top of the RX-V (and I am sure many Yamaha receivers) are very porous to allow for good heat dissipation. Over time, this allows a large amount of dust to collect on top of the parts. Most parts are electronic (not mechanical) and hence don't get affected by the dust. But the few mechanical parts might have adverse affect if dust settles down in between the rotating mechanisms.
My volume knob had stopped responding to remote command, very slowly. Initially it worked a little, missed a little, then it missed a lot and eventually it didn't rotate. That proves the theory to some extent that if the motor had completely failed, it would stop working from the get-go, not intermittently. Dust build-up provided intermittent contact between the parts and hence the response was intermittent.

The dyson vacuum did a great job in pulling out those fine dust from such parts and amazingly, things are looking very good at present. Honestly, I hadn't the slightest hope that vacuuming would fix the problem. I had vacuumed to make it easy for me to work on the parts :).

So, it doesn't hurt at all to just give it a try. Do open the covers so that you can reach closer to the real boards and parts.

Good luck and let us know!!!

Why does my RCA TV cycle through channels on its own?

Hi there!
I think your remote may be at fault. Liquid spill or sweat from the hand accumelates on the inside over some time and then becomes sticky. Some of the buttons may be permanently activated. Then other functions won't work. Have someone check it for you or if familiar yourself. Regards, JUS004
