Question about Audio & Video Receivers

1 Answer

Re Technika AESTBS7 digital terrestrial receiver. We are unable to get subtitles using this (they did work but have not done for 3 days) on ANY channels. Please can you help? I have severe sensitive and painful hearing impairment called Hyperacusis and need to use subtitles at all times. Nothing happens when we press the subtitles on/off button. If you cannot help, please could you advise the correct contact details of TECHNIKA? Many thanks indeed. K

Will try this when hubby gets back and will feedback if it works. Thanks for the advice - I really hope it does work as I'm housebound by this illness and occasionally watching tv with subtitles breaks up the monotony....

Pull the plug from the wall for one hour and then re install the channels on the installation just like when you first installed it

How do I turn the subtitles off for the yamaha HTR-5730 AV receiver? When I hook the cable up directly to the TV, there are no subtitles, but when the video output goes through the receiver, subtitles

The receiver manual may list it under "CC" (closed captions) instead of subtitles. Also, don't just check your AV receiver; try checking the setup menu on your TV, and look at the TV remote. See if there's a CC setting that may be turned on, either through the TV setup (probably under the "Display" or "Video" tab) or because you've accidentally pushed the CC (or Subtitles) button on the TV remote.

I can't get my back speakers on when I'm watching TV in HDMI. I have a new TX-SR608

What is feeding the video/audio signals to your Onkyo receiver? Are you getting your input from a satellite receiver or cable set top box? Or are you just using you TV with a coax feed from a terrestrial aerial?

You need a receiver that will decode Dolby 5.1 or 7.1 if you want to use surround sound. If you are using your TV as the reveiver and it has that capability then the problem is probably the type of HDMI cable you are using. You need a cable that has 'audio return' - in other words it will feed the digital audio (from your TV receiver) to the Onkyo box. Some HDMI cables do not include 'audio return'.
Check what type of HDMI cable you have.

If you respond with answers to these questions I will be glad to provide more assistance.

Unable to assign optical and digital inputs to other inputs

It won't let you assign the same input twice. Check to see that DVD is not already assigned to any other In(x) function.

From the manual:
• You cannot select a specific item more than once.
• You cannot assign the same input source to both “IN (2)” and
“IN (3)”. For example, you assign “CD” to “IN (2)”, “–––”
appears in “IN (3)”.

Kenwood Receiver connected to my pc

using the Y adapter method (i am guessing you are using just a single stereo mini-jack cable with a mini-jack to RCA adapter) you are only sending a standard Stereo signal to the receiver. Setting 5.1 in windows is just simulating (if using Stereo) or actually mixing 5.1 if you are using analog 5.1 (3 stereo mini-jack cables going to 3 mini-jack to RCA adapters using a 6 channel DVD input). if you have a surround sound audio card i suggest using the Analog 6 channel input by using 3 stereo cables each with their only adapter.

or, if you have a Digital output (Coaxial or TOSlink [optical]) try using that.

good luck.

Subtitle Problem: Onkyo TX-sr605

The only remote that will definitely turn the sat subtitles on/off is the sat remote. The other subtitle buttons on the other remotes refer to the DVD subtitles and the subtitles generated by the tuner in the tv. The subtitle option is greyed out on the tv because you are not on the tv tuner.
