Yes you can put movies on Gigabeat but it's time consuming and takes 3 programs to do it. We use DVDfab Platinum,3GP_Converter and Windows Media Player. If someone out there has a simpler way please post. 1st. Rip your movie to your hard drive and remember where you put it. (We've found using DVDFab Platinum it's easiest since we have PSP, Gigabeat & I-Pod and it offers a conversion program for all plus burning our home movies is a cinch.) 2nd. Open your 2nd conversion program (we use 3GP_Converter) and drop your burned movie files into it. We love the 3GP cause you just drag & drop. I don't know why the Gigabeat needs an extra conversion but it does, my PSP is easier to get movies onto. =( 3rd. Open your now fully converted movie with Windows Media Player. And you know the rest: just sync. While I love my Gigabeat it's pretty ridiculous to have to do all this to watch one little movie because it doesn't always work. However, unlike my PSP I can put a whole bunch of movies & pics & music on my gigabeat without running out of room! My husband is a computer geek and has tried several programs and this is the easiest way he's found to rip movie, yikes!

They aren't trying to steal music, just put DVDs they already own onto the device. Thanks anyway.

Head over to rockbox.com.
With full instructions they replace onboard software (reversable).
Fully skinable, highly customisable (is that a word?)
and after update plays mpegs with a nearly drag and drop for files.
A little know how is needed for setup but they have good walkthroughs and excellent manuals/forums

My Toshiba Gigabeat won't work!

This happens when the Gigabeat battery is run down too far. The only hope is to charge it with the AC charger.

If you don't have one, you can probably get something adequate. The standard adaptor is p/n ADP-15HH, 5V 3A output, center positive, take the unit with you and match the connector - I don't have a useful ruler handy.

If you do not have or cannot get an adaptor, try plugging the device into a USB port and wait at least a day, no kidding. If you can get the port to kick in fir high current, it may come back to life. My Ubuntu box has done it once, as a test.

You can only avoid this by charging the Gigabeat before it runs down too much. This is the real weakness of the Gigabeat, IMHO. That and the problems they get losing the firmware, but that's another topic.

You can sometimes find chargers on eBay, but you will have to pay a little...

MES60VK Gigabeat - Dead

There is a switch on the bottom left side of the dock connector of the player. Flick the switch to the right and it should work. The switch is the battery cutoff switch. It is there so it will charge only. I have no idea why Toshiba though this was a good idea, but they put it there.

USB Connection Problem

I have the same problem. If you have a large library try letting it stay hooked up for a long time. It seems like it is taking inventory of device then it should work after a while. Sometimes this works. Sometimes I have to unplug then try again in a few minutes.

Battery is dead

Identical problem - working only with power cord.
Wont power on battery or usb cable.

I actually opened player and check every single option.
(I am experienced electronic - tech.)
Result: battery is fully charged (768 mA/ 3.97V on bench)
Battery switch on bottom fully functional. (switching on/off 3.97V
comming from battery)
USB supply 5.0 V in perfect order.
Conclusion:
There is no "EASY" fix for this problem.
It is either problem with firmware (low possibility)
or semiconductor on logic board (practically not fixable on DIY basis)

I bought my Gigabeat 60Gb for $ 70.00 used on Ebay so
I will live with this problem.

Cannot view Gigabeat s30 as a drive letter (e.g. D,E etc)

Hey JayMac, Your s30 is not possible to map it to a drive letter. The reason ? cause your s30 and the other brothers of your mp3 are MTP class mp3's. Meaning that they are Media Transfer Protocol mp3's, so you can only transfer media files. If your mp3 player would be a USB Mass Storage Device, like alot of other mp3's, well you would've been able to recover you're files. But until now, the answer is no you can't recover the files just becauses of that stupid invention of Microsoft, the MTP.
