SOURCE: My Garmin StreetPilot c340 is frozen.

No.......the C340 STREET PILOT has a hidden reset button. Put your fingernail in the slot just under the GARMIN name on the front face plate. Gently pull the face plate outward. Don't take it all the way off. The reset button is on the right side of the front screen just under this plate. Use a pointed object and hold the button IN for 3 seconds and unit will turn off. When you power it back up it will REBOOT.

My Garmin GPS 12 XL will not power up. Is that an internal battery problem or is the unit shot as Garmin technicians tell me?

try swapping out the batteries, no harm in opening it up with a screw driver (will void the "warranty" that expired 12 years ago) check if there is an internal battery (usually a coin cell battery like cr 2025 or CR2020) otherwise it is dead and time to get an e-trex 30... great simple little unit with lots more features

Screen dark

when on sattelite screen (it starts on that screen) push left button to diminish screen brightness. The screen should return to a non-perfect, but readable state. No idea what is causing this problem or how to definitively resolve it.

Cant read the menu. Is backlight broken.? I can see the word garnin when I turn power on. But the menu is difficult to read- Is it konfigutation for dark or light screen?

It depends on the model - but CCFL tubes are used by Garmin to light the screen of GPS devices. A CCFL tube comes with a high voltage inverter to power the tube. Meaning either the CCFL Tube or the Inverter can be dead.

Symptom is a barely readable screen and becomes a bit more visible when looked at from an angle. No light comes from the screen at all.

The inverter can be tested by holding oscilloscope leads close to the screen. A sinus waveform of about 50 - 60 Khz should be visible when the device is powered at full screen intensity.

If I found a garmin nuvi gps it got a locked on it how can I reset it or something

Most GPS navigation devices from Garmin has a reset function which allows user to access a Maintenance Mode screen with system information, diagnostic details or perform the reset function to restore Garmin Nuvi or other series unit to its original default factory settings.

Depending on which model of Garmin GPS unit you're using, the following routine can reset the Garmin device to original factory loaded settings, or bring up the Maintenance Mode with access to System Information and View Diagnostics screen, where users can see various logs, and of course, clear all user data (reset to factory defaults) or clear Waypoints.

In order to reset Garmin device or enter into maintenance mode, perform one of the following procedures:

Power off Garmin unit. Press on continuously the upper top left corner of screen and then power on the unit by pressing once on the Power button. You should be prompted to clear all user data, or asked if do you really want to start up in maintenance mode. Press "Yes" to reset (warning: all data will be erased and lost, so backup before proceeding) or enter maintenance mode.

Hack above works on Garmin Nuvi 660, 680 series.

Turn off Garmin device. Press down on bottom right corner of the touchscreen, and then power on the GPS unit. You should be prompted whether do you really want to erase all user data, or asked if do you really want to start up in maintenance mode. Press "Yes" to reset (warning: all data will be erased and lost, so backup before proceeding) or enter maintenance mode.

Trick above works on Garmin nuvi 200, 250, 360 750, 760 series unit. In fact, there is a video demo by user of Garmin Nuvi 360 on how to perform the hidden reset function.

Hope helps. (remember to rate and comment this answer).

Garmin Nuvi 205 - when I switch it on the maps load up and after the warning screen a screen appears with the message "Stay up to date with your Garmon Safety Camera Data at my.garmin.com" I try...

You probably need to update the unit at their website. In the meantime, you can try the reset button There is one, but it's kind of stealth - it's on the angled edge of the bottom of the device, in a square "hole". Pressing the corner of the screen resets user data only, not the actual device. Good luck!

My Garmin nuvi 1300 brightness problems

I spoke to Garmin Support about this issue. There are 2 settings for contrast on the nuvi 1300. You need to set the contrast while it is plugged into the vehicle, and also while it is unplugged from the vehicle. The reason for the 2 settings is to save the charge of the battery while it is not plugged into the vehicle or power source.

Unit freezes

Have you updated the GPS software lately for free via Garmin.com? THere was a new satellite launched in 2008 causing a lot of reception problems, and this might be the cause of your problem. Please update your unit and advise us here of the outcome. Thanks.

Lost Memory and Map Data

I just spoke with Garmin and they walked me through correcting the problem - very helpful. It is a matter of resetting the unit. Turn unit off, then press a finger tightly against the bottom right hand corner of screen, holding it while turning unit on. When screen comes up, let go of power button but still pressing bottom right hand corner of screen, answer question regarding deleting defaults. It is tricky and may have to be done a couple times. Then you will answer questions regarding time zones, etc. When finished with this, turn unit off and go outside in order for the unit to re-aquire satellites. When all four bars on upper right hand corner turn green, you're back in business - or at least it worked for me. Hopefully this will help, but you may want to call Garmin as they are really helpful and can explain it better than I can. Good luck!
