I am guessing your printer's display is in a different language other than English?
I would uninstall the printer and driver and download an English driver from HP and install that.

Hello,

You may want to try the following link:

It's the manual which should show you how to maneuver through the menu screens to change the language.

How do I change the language to english on The Hp Photosmart premium prinetr

You can reset the printer back to its factory reset and setup the language again. Follow the steps here Three Ways to Reset the PhotoSmart Premium Fax C309a All-in-One Printer. It is easier to do it from the hardware itself, easier to do it fresh from the start than navigating a language you can't understand. goodluck!

The following steps help you change the language for your unit.
To do this using the front panel
1 Press Menu.
