NEW Garmin 205W Use of Apple Mac USB for charging Causes malfunct
I used my Mac computer to charge a new Gaemin 205. I have a login set up whereby I have to log in prior to allowing the desktop to come up The first time I connected the Garmin I did not log in, so no desktop...charging went well. Next time I logged in and put the machine on SLEEP and hooked up the Garmin to the USB port. As I walk away the blank Mac screen lights up and I see the desktop as if I had awakened the computer.......The Garmin will not turn on now. The screen displays the Garmin Logo, a small message is given about loading maps, followed by a beep. It cycles on and off. That's it. This is the second time this has happened. The instruction book clearly states that a computer cam be used to charge the unit. What do you suggest?

step 2: if you have xp go to START and MY COMPUTER. with vista its START then COMPUTER button on the right side
step 3: with MY COMPUTER window open hold the NUVI power switch to the ON position and RIGHT CLICK the NUVI device logo (blue triangle) and select EJECT .. ( DON;T HIT SAFiLY REMOVE)
step 4: when you see GARMIN display on the screen you can letgo of the power button on the NUVI ****** if you unplugtheusb
it will display message stating EXTERNAL POWER LOST SWITCHING TO
BATTERY POWER***** while it is plugged to the computer the battery
meter will disappear.
Plugging your Nuvi into a computer's USB port will charge it. You can also use a powered usb hub that has a wall-power plug to act as a charging station for your nuvi without needing a computer at all.
Make sure the internal battery is charged by connecting it to your computer with the included USB cable. Make sure the computer is on and running. Let it charge at least a couple of hours and then try to turn the GPS on while still connected to the computer. If the unit still will not turn on you might need to return it to Garmin.
