Might be a refresh issue, try changing that:

Right-click the desktop and go to properties|settings|advanced
Go to the monitor tab and change the refresh rate. Typical is about 75 Hrtz, but your monitor could be any one the ones listed.

If that doesn't work, try an updated driver - which I can help find if you post the make and model of the monitor.

Unplug the monitor video cable from the computer. Power on the monitor and see if you get the same results. If so then your monitor is defective.

Lines on the monitor is a signal that the monitor might be bad or the video card is going bad.

Try another monitor on the computer. If you don't have one borrow one from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker. If the other monitor works without showing the lines, then your original monitor is bad. If the other monitors shows lines just like your original monitor then the video card is going bad.

There's a line drawn in the center of the monitor which suddenly appeared in my ViewSonic VA1703w monitor. I've restarted the pc and the monitor, but that line is still persistent. kindly suggest a...

If the line is there whatever the pc is it plugged in and whatever the resolution used then the problem is at the LCD panel itself - the command line on those pixels is inoperative. If you're lucky it will be just a loose connector to the LCD (open the case and reseat them all) if you're unlucky it will be in the panel itself - in which case the monitor is dead, this fault is unfixable.

This is George I have a 19" viewsonic crt color monitor It has a horizontal line . i can't find out whats causing it . Could it be the flyback?

Try adjusting settings on the monitor. There should be a menu button on the monitor. If that doesn't help try your monitor on a different computer. If the line is still there your monitor is bad. If the line is not there then you may have a problem with the Graphics Card. You could also try a different monitor with your computer. If the line is there then it probably a bad Graphics Card. I have had this same situation and it has usually been a bad monitor.

White lines going across the screen

THere are two possibilities
1. problem in mother board
2. problem in monitor

To make sure if possible connect your CPU to another monitor and see if all is fine. If the other monitor works fine, then your monitor has th problem
if the other monitor also has lines, then the mother board's video card has prob.

Also check the connection wire between the CPU and monitor that there is no loose contact or any cuts or damages in the wire
