A/c does not get very cold... full of freon, everything is working well, but it doesn't sound like the damper closes all the way when I switch from heat to a/c or defrost to a/c.... so I am wondering if the damper works with vacuum hose or with a cable? It's like the damper is not closing all the way and maybe intaking warm cabin air and mixing it with cold a/c air which makes my a/c slightly cool but NOT cold.

dont look for air when the car cuts out its most likley spark or fuel when it cuts out ranomly its usually a sensor or relay that is faulty check fuel pump relay and camshaft or crankshaft sensors but first narrow it down to spark or fuel if possible also if check engine lite is on check codes

expansion valve setting probably needs adjusting for correct super heat setting.

there are two a/c lines that run down the fire wall under the van to the rear.right around the bottom of the fire wall the is a connection point on both lines. you will find a leak there .replace the orings and recharge system. also you will need two specail toyota tools to release the couplings.i have done this repair on several sienna's. let me know if this helps.

have you tried to back flush the heater core, possible clogged heater core
SOURCE: No heat/defrost 01 corolla
Sounds like you have air trapped in the heater core when you flushed the heater core. loosen the upper most heater core hose and run the engine untill coolant seeps out. Wait until the coolant has reached running temperature.
