Question about E-Machines M5305 Notebook

Removal of eMachine M6410 optical drive

I must be missing some screws, unless there's a trick to removing the back of the PC, in order to get to the optical drive. I replaced a defective harddrive and now the optical drive will not boot my XP disks. I want to replace the optical drive, but am having difficulty with the back of the notebook where the monitor connects.

Either I am missing some screws or there is a trick to removing it so I can access the optical drive.

Can you assist?

There are two small screws that the monitor cable would screw into, these have to be removed (7mm i believe) to be able to remove the base. The optical drive will typically pull out of the side after a screw has been removed and latch has been opened. I wouldn't go as far as removing the entire base.

Removing ASUS CG8350 cd drive

Facing the front of the computer is how you determine the Left side, and Right side.
The Left Side Panel removes.

Two screws to loosen. One towards the Top, on the back edge of the left Side Panel; one towards the Bottom.
(Screws should no remove all the way, unless clip is missing from screw)

There's a Fingerpull formed out of the back edge, of the left Side Panel. Pull back, remove.

There should be plastic clips formed out of the Front Panel, that when depressed, or gently pulled out on; will enable removing Front Panel.

WATCH as it may NOT just be a cover.
The Power On LED light (Asus), plus Power On switch, and Harddrive activity LED light, may be attached to the Front Panel.

This is a different Asus desktop computer case, but allows me to show you the clips I am referring to,

http://pctuning.tyden.cz/hardware/pc-sestavy/22300-asus-rog-tytan-seriova-kraska-za-60-tisic-korun?start=5

Scroll down to the photo of the open computer case.
See the three dark plastic tabs on the Front Panel?
One towards the Top, one in the Middle, and one towards the Bottom.

For this type the clips are gently eased out. (They are PLASTIC)

I could be wrong, but I imagine the blue round looking 'knobs', on the side where the optical drive bay is; turn to the Left to remove.
I think the blue round part is a screw head.

Could be wrong. May be they are just gently pulled out on, to release the optical drive. (CD/DVD drive)

Power unplugged to computer.

We have a disk stuch in a dell inspiron 1318, there is no OS on it right now. how can we get disk out? there is no place to stick the paper clip

Remove the optical drive, and then open the drive. Remove the disk.

With most laptops this is a simple job.
Turn the laptop over on it's top, remove one Philips head screw, pull the optical drive out.
Remove 2 to 4 screws from a cover on the optical drive, and ease the tray open.

With the Inspiron 1318 Notebook PC it is more difficult.

A) Remove the Display Assembly.
(Removal covers removing the Display Assembly as a whole unit, off of the laptop)

B) Remove the Keyboard.

C) Remove the Palm Rest. (Top cover under the Keyboard. Your palms rest on it when you use the touchpad)

D) Remove the Optical Drive

Dell Support > Dell Inspiron 1318 Service Manual,

In the list click on Optical Drive.

Remove the optical drive:
1. Position the computer with the left side toward you.
2. Remove the Phillips PM2.5×7.0 screw 1 that secures the optical drive to the computer.
3. If needed, insert a thin tool, such as a paper clip 2, into the release access. (The disc tray is partially ejected
from the optical drive.)
4. Grasp the bezel and slide the optical drive 3 out of the computer.

Replace dvd drive on eMachines laptop

I have removed this drive from my M5414 by removing the bottom case screw that is in between the battery latch and the Left edge of the DVD drive door as you face it. The trick is getting a hold on the drive to remove it AFTER THIS SCREW IS REMOVED.

I solved this problem by opening the drive before shutting down the computer.
Next remove the battery.
Now remove the bottom case screw between the battery latch and the left corner of the DVD drive.
Now since the door is open you can extend it all the way and grab INSIDE THE TRAY, NOT THE FRONT BEZEL, and gently pull it straight out.
Be patient, you may have to wiggle it slowly and gently left to right, you will feel it loosen, and notice it move forward. IF NOT, DO NOT FORCE IT.

Try cleaning the eye and rails with a little alcohol first. It may just be dirty or you may need to find a firmware update for that drive. Also make sure the software your using with that drive is not corrupted.

Removing old/Installing new optical drive?

hi chris, best thing is to get hold of a manual but since NEC's support is not that good they don't provide them on their websites for download. but not to worry, generally you got 2 options from my experience i can confirm that the first one is the old drive is secured with a screw located in the back of the laptop underneath the drive itself if that's the case just unscrew it and release the old drive , the other option is you might need to strip the laptop down and unscrew the drive from inside the laptop i guarantee you these are the only ways manufacturers secure optical drives to laptops. hope this helps
