Question about Epson Perfection 4490 Office Flatbed Scanner

EPSON Scanner 4490 Problem

Since my laptop crashed, I am unable to launch Epson Scanner (where I get the option to save to .jpg or .pdf. I press the scan button and nothing happens. I get the Epson Scan window, but no dropdown options. I tried un-installing & re-installing the TWAIN driver, but nothing works. It is not a hardware problem, because scanner works if I go thru "scanner & camera wizard".

I have an Epson Perfection 4490. It worked fine until about 2 weeks ago. Now, when I try to start it, the start up image appears but then goes down to the bottom of my computer screen and sits there.

I can use the "paint" program that comes with Windows XP, but I can not use the controls like I would like to.

I have called Epson and they said it was Dell's fault. I called Dell and they said it wasn't there problem and that it would cost 129.00 to fix it.

So you've completely ininstalled. Now you should download and install nCleaner, and do a Clean System, and then a Clean Registry. Now:
Download and install the latest 4490 driver software from here:

The Epson Copy Factory Update may be of some use to you also.

Hope this helps

Recognizing hardware on a Mac OS X Tiger

Try just using the epson scan utility

1. Launch Epson Scan by going into your HARD DRIVE, APPLICATIONS, and EPSON SCAN.
2. If prompted, select your scanner from the list of models and click OK.
3. In the FILE SAVE SETTINGS window, you can designate the location, name and type of file the scans will be saved as.

-LOCATION defaults to HD/USERS/(YOUR USER NAME)/PICTURES. Click CHOOSE if you wish to change this.
-PREFIX determines how the scan will be named. Type any name you like. You can also designate a start number.
-FILE TYPE dictates what format the scans will be saved in. ie. .JPG, .TIFF, .PDF, or .PICT)
-For example: if the prefix is "img", the start number is "1", and the format is "JPG", the name of the file saved in
PICTURES will be "IMG001.JPG"
4. Click OK once settings are changed as desired.
5. The EPSON SCAN window will open and begin scanning in FULL AUTO MODE. In FULL AUTO MODE the software makes all the decisions for you (as to what is being scanned, where it is on the flatbed, etc). This is the easiest way to scan.
6. If you want full control over the scanning process click PAUSE and change FULL AUTO MODE to HOME MODE or PROFESSIONAL MODE. In the latter two modes you can change your scan settings as desired. Click SCAN after you have selected your settings. Click CLOSE once the EPSON SCAN is finished scanning.
7. When scanning is complete, your images will be saved in the location specified on FILE SAVE SETTINGS, with the prefix and in the format you set.

Scan copy to computer

Please check the original software disk that accompanied the scanner. You should have the option to install a twain or twain32 driver at the least, which would allow you to scan from within a graphics program (photoshop, or even paint).

Try to replace the usb cable and try to plug it in a different USB port on your computer. Hope it didnt break aything when it fell, try to check the ports from the scanner as well. make sure you are not getting any red light when scanner is turned on. check under device manager for conflicts under imaging devices. Epson 4490 Photo - multiple PDF pages

Hi. Yours probably scans as soon as you have a document in and you double-click, right? I went through this. Double click on the Epson Icon. Make sure the mode preference at upper right is changed to professional. It may start scanning and you have to wait until it's finished to scan again. When you start in professional mode, it brings up a rectangular menu--you probably didn't see this one before (I didn't before changing to professional mode). Now press scan. This gives you a "file save" choice. Chose the location you want. Under the location choice is the Choose Document type option--this is the second key--save as PDF. Now it will bring up that add a page, edit or save file. Professional mode, save as PDF.
