My pc desktop wont work its my tower cuz i tried the monitor on a different pc so what could it be

I would think it is either you motherboard or your power supply. I would start by looking at the power supply. You can pick up a tester at any electronics store. Even at that most of the time electronic stores will test the power supply for free. If it isn't that then I would check out the mother board.

My computer wont turn on

take out the psu completely from the cpu/tower, plug in the power cord,if there is a switch on the psu turn it on, next locate the main power connector (24pin) and find green wire, take a piece of wire and insert it into the green wire connector, next touch the other end of the wire to the psu outer case or a black wire on the main connector,if all is well the psu will turn on,if you have a dc voltage tester check the voltages on the red and black wires on molex connector...5vdc,yellow and black...12vdc.if ok look at the main board and inspect the capacitors to see if they are swollen, if ok
replace psu and disconnect hdd,cd/dvd,floppy ect from main board only leave memory, processor and video, power on if ok shut off and reconnect hdd, power on, if ok shutoff and connect floppy, if ok power off and connect cd/dvd drive.during this testing you will know what is bad.let me know how it turns out.email; arjoon.ken@gmail.com

Re seat your RAM and any other cards that plug into the Mother Board such as PCI cards then try starting the computer again. If that doesn't fix it, then you can uninstall devices and try to boot until you find the culprit, as those beeps you hear sound like hardware error beeps that can be caused by faulty hardware (even keyboards or mice) that plug into your computer. Eliminating all removable hardware should help you determine whether it's an add on component or if the Mother Board itself is bad.
Good luck

If computer is not powering on then open u r cpu and check the SMPS i.e Switch mode power supply which converts AC to DC it gives a output of 5v & 12v in that the 20 pin or 24 pin connector which is connected to the mother board remove that and short the wires Green and Black and make sure to remove all the power connectors i.e,hard disk,Cdrom or cd writer or DVD writer or any other device and one more connecto which is a four pin connector which is connected to the mother board please remove and test the 20 or 24 pin connector by shorting green and black and behind the smps u have a power cord of ac 220v just plug it and switch on if smps fan rotates that means it's fine then the problem willbe on the mother board just try this

Gateway's support site should have a nice diagram for you in your manual--they are also quite helpful if you have trouble locating it.

New Problem

The manual you need will be on the board manufacturers web page, howevr I will bet you have the case power switch and perhaps the reset switch on the wrong pins on the mother board. To check this, remove the switch leads from the mother board, then use a small screw driver and bridge the pins on the mother board a pair at a time. All of these leads plug on to the board in a line and not across the two lines of pins. when you get the mother board to fire up by this method geet a torch and look closely alongside the pins you will see the letters PWR SW or RS SW. It does not matter what polarity these two sets of leads are plugged onto both will work. The LED lights on the case front will only work if the polarity is correct but it will not do any harm if they are backwords. On the board you should se two sets of pins marked HDD and PWR these are the led light pins you will know you have them right when the usual red and green lights are working at the front of your tower. New Computer Wont Boot!

when you say "the fan makes a noise like its getting ready to spin", which fan...power supply's or cpu? if you answer power supply, then the POWER OK signal is not returning to power supply and it then quickly shuts down to prevent further damage. double check a firm connection to mother board. If you answer CPU, then it becomes far more complicated. Try re-seating the memory chips.
