Already tried that. Up or down there is no change.

    Any other ideas?

Do you know anything about the switch board?

    Thanks again

its not the switchboard, some laptops have a power saving mode if you are using battery only, does the screen get brighter when you plug in AC power?

When I turn my Toshiba Satellite A50 on and Windows tries to boot I get the following: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WindowsSystem32ConfigSystem It then says:...

You need the Toshiba CD that says "Operating System"...
If the CD doesn't boot, then boot to the BIOS setup screen and change the boot order.
CD should be listed first.
Re-boot.

My toshiba does not boot up

I do not think it is a HDD problem. When you turn it on, are you able to see something on the screen or not? If not, then it is probably problem of the motherboard.

Sattelite A50 has an 42000 rpm IDE Harddisk, buy 40GB or 80 GB.

Is it under warrenty?

My back light on toshiba satellite 1415-s173 laptop

Replacing a backlight is better left to the experts of experts - it is very, very, very specialized. On these models, a dim screen can also be a dead inverter - I'd try replacing that first. If replacing the inverter doesn't solve it, then just replace the screen. Don't even think about replacing the tube yourself.
