I'm trying to install an HP G85 printer, copier, scanner on my PC. When I put the install CD in my drive I get the following message,: "Installation does not supported for Windows 5.1 5.2 5.3" I previously had an HP 1310 coper, printer, scanner installed with no problems. What does the error message mean and how can I fix it? Thanks, Billie

The error is that your printer was shipped before XP was released so that CD will not run in XP.

See here for how to fix

The software CD-ROM that came with the product does not support Windows XP.

The printer on my G85 works fine but I cant get the scanner to work. It says that it can not connect to the computer.

This is a software problem; make sure you have installed all software besides the driver.

Also some scanners prefer USB 2.0 so make sure you're USB is not at 1.1.

good luck

Officejet G85 printer

If you previously were using a parallel connection for the G85 you will need a USB cable.

If your laptop is running Vista the G85 will work as a printer, I do not think there is a scanner driver for Vista for the G85. The G85 print driver is built into VIsta, you only need to turn on the printer and install the USB to have the printer automatically installed.

Copying a word doc from scanner to pc

First, I would install the latest driver for this printer. Before scanning, select 'save as file' option and save the document as a PDF. That should allow anyone with Acrobat Reader to open it. Hope that helps!

Scanner does not work

First make sure that the scanner drivers and all the PSC drivers have been installed.
Or try to reinstall the printer drivers by removing all Hewlett Packard's applications from "add - remove programs" in the control panel. Then disconnect your printer and restart the computer.
When the PC finishes loading windows, insert the HP printer software CD while pressing SHIFT on the keyboard for 30 seconds. Connect the printer again and follow the "Found new hardware" wizard instructions. When a gray sandglass pops up, choose "Decline" or "Not agree" to the license terms and continue with the installation.
After that, try to scan again from Photoshop or another scanning program. Remember that in the reinstallation, you haven't installed the HP image zone software.

G85 not being recognized by computer

Do you have the Software/Install CD that came with it? Does the CD cover Windows XP? The original G85 software was only for Windows 98. Later, they finally developed the software to cover Windows XP.
