Question about Nintendo DS Lite Console

1 Answer

DS Game port

There are 2 wires bent inside the ds slot game slot on my son ds lite. I have the back off the unit. My question is can I unsoldier the corners of the metal cover and straighten the wires without doing any more harm. Or where can I buy a new port to replace this one.

Thanks
Robert

My sons DS lite is having issues with the games clicking into the slot. The games go all the way into the slot but wont click into place, and they will play if i hold the game in. I've looked in the slot...

The spring that holds the game in place is broken and needs to be replaced. at some point someone may have snatched the game out instead of pressing it in then ejecting it. Here is a link to another moms story about the DS http://headbonk.com/blog/2009/04/12/nds-silver-slot-1-repair-sort-of/ I hope this helps and I hope its just gunk stuck in the bottm of slot 1 thanks in advance for your feedback

DS Lite no longer recognizes games when they are inserted

Hi,

My best suggestions for resolving the bent/ broken slot-1 pins are:
1) If under warranty then send it off to them for repair.
2) Find a local repair place and give it to them to repair it.
3) If you have good soldering skills and fancy a bit of DIY repair you can have a go at sorting it yourself.

To be honest its far easier to just replace the entire slot-1 part than it is to take the part apart and repair it, the cost of the slot- 1 is very reasonable from ebay.

I have a few guides written up to help you if you do decide to take the DIY option, they are as follows:

DS lite slot-1 replacement guide
DS lite dismantle guide

Hope this helps, any further help or advice you may need then feel free to contact me.

Regards,

Nintendo ds lite - son putgame cartridge in wrong way and has bent a pin on the console - fixable or not?

The part with the damaged pins is the slot-1 port. I know it seems rediculous, but it is too impractical for most people to attempt a repair to this part.

However, if you are savvy enough to attempt the repair of the damaged pins on your DS Lite, here are my recommendations:
1) Cut a flap in the slot-1 port cover and straighten pins.
2) Replace the main board.
3) Remove the slot-1 port cover and straighten pins.
4) Remove the damaged pins from the slot-1 port and straighten.
5) Replace the slot-1 port.

All of these recommendations require disassembling the DS Lite using a specialized triwing (or Y) screwdriver and a lot of patience. The following video will help in disassembly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQlTpTLUyFQ.

Recommendations 3 to 5 all require solder work. Recommendation 3 requires solder work for 4 solder joints, 1 at each corner. Recommendation 4 requires solder work for up to 17 solder joints, one for each damaged pin. Recommendation 5 requires solder work for all 21 solder joints

Nintendo ds lite won't read card

had this problem, i looked into where the game goes and one of the little metal teeth was bent, so i took a long toothpick and gently pushed it back over now it works fine. Be careful that you dont break it off though.

DS recognises game but won't play

check the connectors inside cartridge slot inside ds, verify if they are all aligned ( | | | | | ).

if any contact is bend, you must align it, also check for dirt or rust inside slot.

sometimes you will need to clean contacts inside. you must buy a cleaning kit to do it.
