HP M1522nf printer, shows "scanner error 5"

Turning off and then on again does not solve problem, neither does restarting the computer.
Even restarting when the printer is disconnected from the computer, it will not copy, just make a lot of noise, flash the scanner light and then display "scanner error 5"

I had to contact support, but all they do is make sure you try connecting the printer to the wall outlet, then a different wall outlet, then reset to factory defaults. After that didn't work, they submitted an replacement order.

Hope this helps!

HPM1522NF - Freezes or Restarts Randomly.

Hello, this is caused by the "formatter" board being defective, it needs to be replaced. This printer also has a scanner problem, the error code of 5 and 8 are reported. This printer should be covered under an HP Extended Warranty Until Mar 23, 2011 Contact a local HP Authorized Service Center for further assistance.

Hp m1522nf: Keep getting scanner error5. Don't use the scanner but not I can't copy with this error.

Hello !
I worked with those printer for 2 years...
This scanner error 5 you are getting is hardware failure on the scanner assembly
I would recommend you to try updating the firmware to the latest version, but most of the time its not going to work.
Now heres the best solution:
If the printer its under warranty (1 year after purchase date) just call hp tech support and you can get a replacement for $69 US dolars
its better than buying the scanner assembly
If the printer its out of the 1 year warranty, theres a service note for this specific issue that will extend your warranty 1 more year, that means 2 years warranty if the problem is a scanner error 5

Hp tech support phone number is 1 800 334 51 44
