Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
Turning off and then on again does not solve problem, neither does restarting the computer.
Even restarting when the printer is disconnected from the computer, it will not copy, just make a lot of noise, flash the scanner light and then display "scanner error 5"
I have the same problem, could you pl let me know where can I get the stepper motor?

I had to contact support, but all they do is make sure you try connecting the printer to the wall outlet, then a different wall outlet, then reset to factory defaults. After that didn't work, they submitted an replacement order.

English: Error scanner 5 try to change the stepper motor of the len scanner, this fixed it my problem.
Español: Error de escaner 5 reemplaza el motor que mueve el lente del escaner, es un motor de paso, puede estar averiado; esto funciono en mi caso.

I know this post are from a while back but Call HP at 1-800-633-3600. This a known issue on this printer and several others and they will replace the scanner assembly and formatter for free.
