Question about HP DeskJet F380 All-In-One Printer

1 Answer

When I try to print, nothing happens. The printer status is "offline", though I don't know how that happened or how to switch it back. When I turn it off/on, it doesn't change anything.

I keep getting the printer status error which I've never gotten before and I can't seem to print on this printer at all anymore. Kodak esp 9 Thanks regards Gary

Hi,, Its a bit difficult to tell why this is happening as I will need a bit more information to help you fully resolve it. But generally the printer status Is if the printer is Online or Offline. this issue is mostly caused by driver failure..

try this fix it should resolve 80% of the issues that cause this.

1.) unplug the USB cable from your printer to the computer.

2.) Right click on the printer in devices and printers (exact spot where you were showing the printer in the vid) and click remove device.

3.) make sure the printer is powered off

4.) plug in the usb cable back into the printer and another usb port of the computer.

5.) turn the printer on.

windows should detect and reinstall a new driver for that printer.
it should work now. If not let me know and we'll go through a few steps to determine whats happening.

Reason behind "offline" is communication between printer & system got interrupted, check weather printer is restarting it self ? check with another USB cable, check firm ware if low version up load it, check printer USB port on formatter is it dry solder? if no check the voltage in connector 17, between pin 1 & 20 is it 5V? if not check power supply connector J201 pin1, is it 5V? if not replace Power supply PCA.
If 5V showing between pin 1& 20 replace formatter.

Hi,

HP Printers have common behavior of going into sleep mode if not used for a while. If this happens every-time the printer goes to sleep mode and you find printing issue, try this simple step below

Disconnect the power cable from back of printer
While holding the # and 3 button, connect the power cord to printer.

*Note this is partial reset and doing so you may loose fax logs and other fax related setting you have setup on printer.

Trouble with duplex printing

I think your problem is that the 5550 supports manual duplex printing. Print every other page then feed them through again. Never tried it though. Dave Reed

How to change "offline" status to "online"

Assuming you are on a PC:
Go to your control panel in Windows, open the printers box, choose your printer by double clicking on it, then click on 'printer' on the left edge of that window. Scroll your mouse down to where it says 'use printer offline' and uncheck that option. This should release any documents you have waiting in the queue.

you will also need to check your manual on how to set its sleep function, as some printers like to go to sleep really quickly - and that causes Windows to think it is offline.
