    probably the region code ...

Similar. I bought my C3183 in Tanzania and new cartridges bought in the UK will not work. Is this to prevent Africans from taking advantage of cheap cartridge offers when in the UK or Europe? Refilling the old cartridges works but is very messy with this printer and they eventually fail.

My suggestion: Don't buy HP. I have the same region coding problem. All I want to do is buy HP ink, put it in my HP printer and print stuff. Too hard. I've wasted 30 pounds on ink and another 30 pounds on "support" phone calls to HP. Hopeless. I will never buy HP again. Waste of time and money.

SOURCE: Change region code for ink cartridges

Another solution is to take your old ink cartridge, open it up and fill it up with ink from the other countries cartridge. I moved to Europe from the US. I had to take the ink cartridge from Europe, open it up and put the sponge and ink into the cartridge from the US. This is obviously a temporary solution, but it works until my mom sends me some US ink.

The top of the ink cartridge pops off easy. There is hardly any ink in the new cartridge. You will need to go through the cleaning cycle of the printer several times, including priming the printer, to get the new ink in the old cartridge to work.

Well it is nothing but to change the region of the printer. hence remove all the cartridges and remove the power supply first.

1. Hold # & 9 key on the keypad
2. Connect the power back to the printer
3. It will say NVRAM init.
4. It will ask for the Region select what you want.
5. And continue to work

Goto setup menu in printer and change the region.

I have a HP Photosmart C3180 that I bought in the US and now trying to install UK cartridges, but it tells me that the cartridge is incorrect. How do I re-set the printer to accept the UK cartridges?

The reason behind this is the regionalization capability of your product. The printer sets its region/zone after printing a few pages with a particular ink cartridge, once the region/zone is set, the printer would only recognize ink cartridges that are bought from the region/zone it's set to. You can click on the link to determine the compatible cartridges that you may use with your printer.

Only certain cartridges are compatible with your product. This document lists compatible cartridges by country/region. Use one of the following methods to check which cartridges are compatible with your product.Click on the link below for more information.

Hi there,
Have you reset the region from the menu?? To do so kindly follow the procedure below

The language and country/region setting determines which language the HP All-in-

One uses to display messages on the color graphics display. Usually, you set the

language and country/region when you first set up the HP All-in-One. However, you

can change the setting at any time by using the following procedure.

1. Press Setup.

2. Press 6, and then press 1.

Finish setup

This displays the Preferences menu, and then selects Set Language & Country/

A list of languages appears. Press or to scroll through the list of languages.

3. When your language is highlighted, press OK.

4. When prompted, press 1 for Yes or 2 for No.

The countries/regions for the selected language appear. Press or to scroll

through the list.

5. When the country/region you want to select is highlighted, press OK.

6. When prompted, press 1 for Yes or 2 for No.

If you require more assistance, feel free to reply to this post,

Thanks for asking FixYa!

Regards, Bilal

Hi! I will be glad to assist you in this issue. The printer will not work due to regionalize settings of the printer. lets try this procedure. It may help but there is no assurance. we are going to reset the printer to factory setting, but before you do that you need to insert the print cartridge that you bought from the phil. here is the procedure:

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} 1. Unplug the power cord from the unit.
2. Press and hold ‘Cancel’ and ‘Power’ button
3. Insert the power cord
Release the buttons

Change region

hi peterute,

sorry there is no solution.

HP (maybe other manufacturers too) distribute locally. So the cartridges are more expensive here then anywhere else.
The costs are caused maybe by tax, logistics, but also by regional conditions.
F.e: Customers in Asia buy cartridges for lower costs than in Europe due to GDP.
So the only way is to call HP (phone, chat, mail) and request new codes for the printer. The codes will never be publicated to prevent missuse.

Hope it helps,

Change regional code from europe to us for hp Photosmart C3180

Currently, it's a very convoluted process involving a phone call to HP tech support. Unless things have changed, you are also restricted to changing the region code 3 times over the lifetime of the printer. Having said that...see this page here at FixYa:

HP Tech Support number is: 1-800-474-6836
