KP-65WV700 convergence problem

Hello,

You posted a comment on this thread: http://www.fixya.com/support/t1074501-sony_kp_65wv700 suggesting you might be able to help fix a convergence problem with the KP-64WV700 TV.

I replaced both STK392-580 chips but the problem persists. I read on the thread this issue might be related to the "D"board. There's a daughter board on the convergence motherboard with an "AD" on it. Is that it?

Since something popped when the TV first broke, I was looking for physical damage on the components. The AD board doesn't seem to have this problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
J Roque

Thanks for your reply. I'd much rather fix the board than buying a new one. I did replace both convergence drivers but that did not do it. I did this blindly without even trying to confirm the parts were damaged - but those were cheap.

So is the "D" board the large motherboard with the STK392-570's on them? The "AD" board plugs into it.

Is there something that commonly fails on this board that I can replace? Is it worth the trouble to chase or should I just replace the whole board?

Yes please, if you can send me the part # in case I need to replace it, I'd appreciate it.

BTW, I tried to take that large board out but it's attached to a flyback type of device (is it?) and I'm not sure how to disconnect the cable. It doesn't seem to be a simple pulling operation.

BTW2, you're a TV tech so I'd like to pay for your services. I'm new to this site and not sure how that works. Please let me know how to do that and how much.

    Regards,
    JR

Hello. Thanks for the tip. I checked all fuses as you suggested but they are all fine. I ordered a new D board (Part# A1300883A) to swap out the entire part. I'll see if I can find the service manual and purchase it for the future.

One more question: how do I unplug the red flyback cables? There are two of them, one thin that goes to a set of pots and a thicker one that goes into a splitter for the three tubes. Do I insert a screwdriver in there to get it out or do I need a special tool for that?

    Thanks,
    JR

PS: what is up with this site? My comments and yours show separate and not in chronological order like they should be.

Ok, I ordered a new D board, swapped the old one out, turned the TV on and.... same thing. I still see the convergence issue with a deep curve in the middle (like U shape) and the three colors misaligned. I tried adjusting the convergence with the remote but it has no effect: the colors do not move left/right/up/down at all.

At this point, I'm calling in a local tech guy unless someone has another suggestion.

    Thanks,
    JR

As you said, both STK392-570 has been replaced but no affect on picture.
Yes, it is D board where STK392-570's are mounted and you dont need to replace complete board yet.
Let me know do you have any expereience of big tv repair and knowledge of electronics to recognize and test/ check parts. If yes, you should get service manual of this tv for technical information and schematics.
Thank you very much for offering payment. I don't mind to help you as free question and will try to help you out.
You should look for Fuses PS8001 ~ PS8006 on D board (near IC8001 & IC8002) and I'm sure few of them would be open.

Thicker wire can be removed from splitter, push that red thick wire and turn it 45 or 90 degree, this will release its internal lock and pull it.
Regarding other thin red wire, you can pull it / unsold it where its attached. I don't remember, can this wire be pulled from flyback or not.

This may be nothing more than dirt, hair or dust on the picture tube magnifier glass ( you can clean this by opening the front and cleaning like you would a window glass) or it may be more serious like a high voltage divider control. I would suggest you try cleaning the tubes first and if it's not that, then seek qualified help. ( PS. Always unplug the set from the wall before working inside the set ).
I hope this has helped.
Happy President Day.
