Does not take or record photos

Hi, everything seems to work on my DSC-P51 except that it will not take (or record) photos and the flash does not go although the light/on screen symbols all seem normal. The LCD screen lights up fine and there is a green flashing light symbol for about a second after the shutter is pushed. No error codes come up and I have `scan-disked' the memory stick and it seems fine. I am just using alkaline batteries. It's a really nice old camera and I would like to fix it if possible and would be happy to try taking it apart in an attempt to save it rather than throw it away. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Sony dsc p51 cyber-shot. screen does not come on for pics. or video

Hi there,

I had the same problem with a P51 camera I bought from ebay. After searching on the internet for possible solutions. I found that this particular model had a problem with a sensor. Some guys recommended to hit the down corner (where the len is located) in your palm. I did it, and amazedly it worked, however, I need to do the same thing every-time the black screen appears. This is a Sony defect, the should replace the sensor. I have heard this solution does not work for everybody. Good luck!

No flash but display works

The bulb for the flash could possibly be burned out.

there are two possible causes for the problem. 1). a bad CCD or 2) shutter not working. in both the cases you have to contact pro. repairer to fix the problem.
