Ive heard it's around £170 in the UK - whether they replace one tiny part or practically the whole thing. Might be cheaper to get a replacement from an auction site!

How does the release switch feel? If you don't feel the two separate 'pops' when you depress it then it probably needs to be replaced. Try pushing it all around - from the front, back, both sides, etc. and see if you can get the camera to release.

Set the menu so you can fire the camera without a card inserted and see if it will then fire. Also remove the lens and set the camera to 'M' and see if it will fire.

Check the CF pins for bent pins.

Can not insert CF card into a canon rebel xt

Hi it is common problem of eos xt, xti.. you have a choice for repair your self or bring it to local repair shop. They would charge you around $50 to 215 depend on what they want to charge. (you also have check old cf card for future safety if you want to repair shop check.)

Shutter button on my digital rebel xt stopped working. I can press down far enough (halfway) to get it to focus but then it won't click all the way down and release. For several months before this final...

I know it sounds expensive but at least you know Canon will fix it properly with a limited warranty on the repair. Remember, they have to take the camera completely apart to reach that part. If you're interested in seeing how complicated it is, google the words...disassemble a digital camera.

So you're saying the camera works fine with another lens, just not with the 18-55. Try cleaning the contacts where the lens and the camera body meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

My camera made a POP noise Canon Digital Rebel

Unfortunately, per your problem description, it seems that an electronic device in one of the internal baords is damaged, causing a failure in the power board.

The solution for it requires to open and repair the damaged board, or replace it. This means that it has to be done by a professional repair service.

If your camera is within warranty, contact immediately to Canon to make it valid. If not, then contact a camera repair center for diagnosctics and repair quote.

Best regards,

Canon EOS Rebel problem

This is usually caused by a defective shutter release switch - it'll have to go into a repair shop - independent shops will charge about $110 USD - Canon charges about $180

Your looking at a bad DC/DC board. Probably about $250 repair. I wouldn't trash it. as it is still a good camera.

Canon Digital Rebel XT will not take pictures

turn camera off, take out battery, put in a one you know is charged up. Then turn on camera and try again. The numbers may just be from in the 'info button' and will disappear when taking a photo. I am wondering if the battery is dead is why the shutter won't work and has nothing to do with 'numbers.'
