Question about Samsung HCM4215W 42" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Red Convergence out on right side of the screen only

Hello, I recently got a Samsung HCM4215W 42" TV, and have found that almost immediately after turning on the set, the red convergence goes out. However, it's fine when the set is first turned on, and it's only on the right side of the screen (as you are facing it). Is this a convergence board problem, or something I can adjust?

I replaced both ICs, convergence can be perfectly adjusted now.

Ill have to look up the part numbers , but it is a common problem caused by the convergence board at the back of the device. replace the TDA*** for the color that is faulty and the problem should be solved.
After replacing the TDA*** you need to adjust the convergence again and perform an auto-fucus and convergense adjust again

Cannot not line up the red and blue lines on my samsung projection tv. it is a 2002 samsung tv

Needs new convergence amps and possibly a few low ohm resistors.
Those Samsung amps usually run hot to the touch and sometimes only last 4 to 5 years depending on usage.

Samsung HCM4215w has wavy red lines and bowtie effect

Are you saying that after installing a new convergence board, you still have the same issue? If that's the case, another new board isn't going to resolve this. Also, you can't do a factory reset. Doing that would lose all the convergence and geometry data in the TV and would require a qualified technician hours of work to restore the settings. If you've installed a new board and have the same problem, suspect a problem in the TV's power supply. All convergence circuits require 2 voltages to operate. There will be a postive and a negative voltage of the same value. If you're missing either of these voltages, your convergence will never work properly.

Tv wouldn't turn on, unplugged convergence board, turned on, replaced STKs, still have convergence problem

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...
