what is the bios screen matt

  • chrislock2 Dec 15, 2008

Hi.... thanks for the advise. I have since been to a lap top repair shop where I bought this and they are saying they are sure it is the graphics chip hard ware problem ( what ever that means ) & suggest to replace it on a ibm t42 it will cost around £200 or a reconditioned chip for £150. They say they know this just by turning the comp on! when it starts up I get random different coloured numbers & red lines running down the screen. ~What is strange is that when i highlight the are and click off it it can move or disapear in that particular area. mie999s do you still think I can take to someone to resolder as its hard to believe its not a loose connection prob. I am by no means a computer wizz & dont really know much lingo when it comes to the words bias screen and pcb. I really appreciate your thoughts on this though.

My desktop red in colour i have lg flatron w1642s

Hi Shiva003,

This problem usually arises when a line in your signal cable is cut. I suggest you get a new signal cable and the problem will be history. When this cable is cut you may have your screen appearing reddisg, yellowish or blueish - RGB combination that produce all the other colours we see.

Regards.

I've lost the red color to my computer. How can I fix it?

If you are using a CRT monitor and you have lost the colour RED, then whats known as the colour gun is faulty. It can be replaced at a cost. However you might find it cheaper or economically sound to purchase a new LCD monitor.

Remember to also check your screen by pushing the menu key on it.

In the menu, under colour management ensure that all colours are set to 50%.

If it is then above colour gun theory is correct.

All the best!

From time to time, the screen simply goes a random colour (red, blue, white, brown, green...) Nothing I press short of the power switch at the mains will solve this. Is this a problem with the screen or...

Let me first ask if you are using onboard graphics or a seperate card? If separate card, is it PCIe? Ver 2? Do you have a diagnostics program ( dxdiags ) built into windows. Should this pass, you may have an out of date driver for your video. If this is not the case, I would think some RAM is on the edge of crapping out.

My computer keeps shutting down randomly. Also when i try to use F10 it will not respond if i try and run error checking the system will crash/shut down or give me a black screen. Basicly it randomly...

Possibilities:
1. overheating, and automatic shutdown.
Check that the fans are working.

2. bad RAM, causing "random" crashing.
On a "good" computer, download the free 'MEMTEST86+' software, and run it, to test your RAM.

3. Leaking capacitors on motherboard, causing "voltage-spikes", leading to "random" errors.

4. Bad disk-drive. Remove the disk-drive.
Connect it as a "slave" drive in another computer,
and run 'CHKDSK' ("Check Disk") to look for problems.
