Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I went to use my dryer and when I opened the door it was like no power. The interior light will not even come on. I checked the breaker, voltage in plug, even looked at where power cord connected into dryer but seems okay. It had worked fine the day before and there were not storms/power surges etc.

2008 whirlpool dryer ,no light when i open the door and the power button does not work

sounds like a breaker or the plug is at fault. check for proper voltage at the plug if 220 the 2 flat bars should be 220 and one at a time to the other opening(s) should be 115 each.

if gas it will be 115 from the smaller opening to either of the other 2 .
check breaker turn off and on puish hard, even if it looks good turn off and back on to reset, then recheck the power.

Replaced timer on dryer because would not shut off sometimes. dryer was working while I had it open I was vacuuming out lint around drum and switches. had door open and light was on suddenly light went out...

if its on a circuit breaker, just switch the breaker off, then back on,they can drop out ,but still show good
if this is not the case, check the incoming power block inside the dryer as a burned off neutral conductor can result in the same condition

Power went out on dryer (including interior light)

Try resetting the dryer circuit breaker pair in the house electrical panel--push off, then on. If no help, look for a circuit breaker button on the back of the dryer. If still no help, then a voltmeter will be needed to service some portion of the dryer interior. You will need a wiring diagram to make sense of the voltage readings. Good luck!

Dryer interior light and motor will not turn on

plug something else into the wall outlet to make sure you're getting power there and try changing the bulb.if there is power check the door switch, move the paddle in and out and you should hear a clicking sound,if you don't change out the door switch, also check the back of the dryer at the block where the power cord connects to the dryer and make sure you have power there.also is there a gfi plug anywhere near the dryer that might have to be reset,i've seen this, also i've come across whoever wired the outlet switched the hot wire and the neutral around so when the machine is plugged in the wiring isn't correct

Lost power after opening door during cycle.

Try and flip the breaker to off again and push lightly then on , when a breaker trips somtimes just flipping it on it wont catch a latch inside the breaker to actually flip it on.

I have a Kenmore Elite HE3 dryer model # 110.8483220. It has no power. We tested the plug and it tests for 110V of power, and the wire connection at the top of the dryer (on the outside) has power. But...

Your dryer is electric. This means it needs 2 electrical phases (hot wires) and one neutral to wor. If you measure 110v across 2 phases - one of them is out.
Unplug the dryer. Find the double breaker for your dryer on the breaker panel.
Pull breaker to the off position hard (do not overdo it,as you can pull the breaker out), and then back to on position.
Check voltage between the two phases, it should read 220-240v. Check the voltage between each phase and the neutral (middle prong), should read 110-120v. If you don't get these readings - call electrician.
If you get the proper voltage, plug the dryer back in. If it does not work - Dryer needs repair. Likely a thermal fuse is blown or problem with power wiring inside.

OK everyone, my ears are red. Over the weekend, I gave this another shot, since my warranty repair appointment isn't until next week.

I opened the dryer door (the drum light is off, indicating no power at all) and went to the circuit breaker box, and flipped the washer/dryer breaker back to off and then re-set the breaker again.

When I got to the laundry room - the drum light was on!

So I powered up the unit, and ran the machine. It ran for about one minute, and then went off. So I went back and re-set the breaker again.

Visually, the breakers did NOT LOOK tripped - but flipping the thing off and then on to re-set the breaker worked.

This time, the dryer is working fine. The bad part is: I need to replace the breaker for the second time. So this is NOT a defective dryer, it is a bad electrical supply. I will call the electrician back to make him fix this right. . . . .

Thanks again for all who responded. This is a new unit, purchased on 7/7/2009.

Dryer will not start

Go to the breaker panel and make sure the neutral is making good contact. Especially check for corrosion. If it is good there, look for other connections between breaker panel and dryer. It seem to me you have a bad neutral somewhere.
