Did you purchase the optional WiFi card? If so there should be instructions with the printer, but if you lost them you can download an electronic version at: http://www.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/2007/3500/en.html

Wireless Networking is on page 20 of the Getting Started guide. And General Networking setup is on page 14 of the User Guide.

Wireless radio switch

Usually WIFI is Disabled/OFF if you typically use a wired LAN connection, and a lot of systems only allow you to have One Or The Other on at one time, otherwise it would not know which method to send your internet and network traffic.

So, you may have to Temporarily Disable the LAN connection before you can Enable the WIFI connection.

If your dell has an antenna sticking out of the back, then you have wifi, otherwise I believe this model needs a wireless card. If you do have wifi, here's how to turn it on.

- click Start,
- choose Control Panel on the right
- If the top right says 'View by: Category'
click the down arrow on the right and choose either Large Icons
or Small Icons.
- choose Network and Sharing Center
- you will now see your wireless network if the adapter is on,
if it is not on, chick on Change Adapter Settings on top left
- two connections typically show up:
1. Local Area Connection and
2. Wireless Connection
- right click the Wireless Connection,
- choose Status

> the next window lets you Enable your wireless device, check its
Properties, or Diagnose connection issues.

Let me repeat from above:

Just reverse this later if you want to go back to a wired connection on the desktop machine. I use all WIFI at home, then I connect my laptop by a cable to my router if I have an issue to solve, which is maybe once every two years.

It's easier when you are doing it than it may seem just reading this.

Hope this helps
All the best to you,

Is Sony Vaio PCV 6603 wireless enabled to connect to net via router?? If it isn't, is it possible to "upgrade" it to be wireless enabled?

It may be wireless enabled. Even if it isn't, then you may install wireless NIC (network interface card) that will help to retrieve the wireless signals.

No user manual with new little MSI netbook. Need to know how to enable wireless network. Is there a switch or key combination?

Try this:
FN+F11 turns wifi/bluetooth on/off

Look at the LEDs on the front, namely the left most two.

No Blue + No Green = All wireless modes off
No Blue + Green = Bluetooth Off, WiFi On
Blue + No Green = Bluetooth On, Wifi Off
Blue + Green = Both Bluetooth and WiFi on

Press Fn+F11 to switch between each mode in turn in the order above.

Configure your wifi access with whatever tool you prefer. Some use the built-in windows wireless network , others use the realtek one. Use whatever works for you. (personally, I use the windows one).

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Just brought lexmark x3580 what do ineed for wifi

You can either buy the extra card for $50 or buy the equivalent printer x4550 for about the same total price. This is still way cheaper for similar functionality from other brand.

WiFi printer gives you greater range than Bluetooth. Also, not all BT devices will work together. They should be of the same class to inter-operate.

For cartridge you should read the cost per page and not simply the upfront cartridge cost.

I cant seem to print, it says theres a communication error, iv done everything. i have the lexmark x3580 printer

Hi rima1st,

Printers can definitely be frustrating if they aren't working right, but often times it is one of several common problems that can make them work again. Here are some tips to help you troubleshoot your printer error, since we cannot physically test your connectivity to your printer at the moment.

1: Open your Printers & Faxes panel from your control panel. First, ensure that the correct printer is installed here, and that it is currently set to be the default printer.

2: Right-click on the default printer, select Open, and ensure that there are no print jobs currently queued to print. If there are several of them, delete them all to make sure a broken or stuck print job is not holding up the rest of your printing.

3: Double-check all connections to your PC from the printer, and make sure your printer does not display any errors that are related to it's functionality, rather than the computers.

4: Last but not least, you can uninstall and re-install your printer's drivers and set it up in your Printers & Faxes. This completely removes all of your computer's working knowledge of that printer and re-educates it on how to communicate properly to your printer.

Other than that, the problem could be related to a third-party program blocking your printer (spyware or virus) or it may be that your printer or USB cable are defective. Again, many possibilities and it's extremely difficult to troubleshoot with very limited information. Perhaps you could post a more detailed description of any error messages that your computer mentions, or what steps you have taken? Hope that helps.
